Mobs image will freeze in place, but mob continues to move

Occasionally all the mobs in an area will freeze in place, but an invisible version of themselves will continue to move around freely. For example, a zombie froze in place several blocks away, but I was being attacked by the same zombie that I could not see or interact with, but could hurt me. After restarting Minecraft, it went back to normal. This bug has happened multiple times now.
