Waterlogged pistons causing issues with redstone

I noticed that when I created an automatic kelp farm that the observers weren't working, causing me to investigate. Upon investigating, I found that all my redstone was destroyed as a result of the water flooding through the piston. I believe this to be a bug as when I tested it in a seperate world, water didn't flow through, so I believe this to be an issue with source block collisions next to the piston causing water to spill in as if the piston were the source block. (Piston is in closed position by the way) this is my first time making a post like this as I do deem it to be of some importance as it shouldn't happen. At least I think it shouldn't.
