When walls are floating you can pass through them providing you don't collide with the top few pixels of the hit box

Did you hit a wall with an elytra before that happened? Then MCPE-109925 describes your issue.
I do have an elytra on although I wouldn't have been in fly mode, likewise it's possible that I hadn't come out of creative fly mode since using the elytra. So if the game is counting me not using the elytra as anytime I'm walking and not in anyway flying or airborne... Then possibly. I hope that made sense
Although I now can't do it...? Not sure. Possibly just chunks not fully loading. Seems odd as I was still placing them
