Friends connecting

When I am trying to connect with my son playing on a. iPad or any other device - my switch doesn't have my friends in my friends list. I cannot remove friends yet when I go to add them they're there, it says they're online a s playing but I cannot join them.

I have tried several MS Xbox accounts and multiple devices
