Note
If you get stuck on "locating server" when trying to join one particular world, but you have been able to join that world in the past or you can still join other worlds, please see MCPE-90372.
Potential Workaround
Minecraft (Bedrock) uses the Xbox Live service to connect to friends in online worlds if you are signed in with your Microsoft Account.
You and/or your friend may need to open network ports (port forward) in your router’s settings so your device can communicate with other devices using Xbox Live.
1. Make sure you are connected to the internet.
2. Perform an internet connection test on your device to find out your NAT type.
(Cellular): Cannot be checked.
(Wi-Fi): Check your router’s settings.

For PS4 > https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps4/settings/nw_test.html
3. If you have a moderate, closed, or restricted NAT type, open ports (port forward) for Xbox Live in your router's settings. :gear: https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/Hardware-Network/connect-network/network-ports-used-xbox-live
4. Make sure you are not using any multiplayer-restricted skins or other resources both when hosting and joining.

I have been trying to connect different ways between iOS, Win10 and Switch. I believe it is the iOS version that is faulty. Here's what I found out:
First of all, the Windows log-in is smooth in Win10 and Switch but on my iOS devices it has issues. On iOS, when trying to access the marketplace, it displays "We're unable to connect to the store. Maybe check your internet connection?" most of the time. If it loads then it took a long time to to do it, even their icons take a long time. When playing in a world made on the iOS device, it displays " Oops! You were disconnected from Xbox Live To invite more players, reopen your world" and am not able to invite or get invites.
Here is how the cross-platform connections are working for me:
World on Win10:
iOS without Xbox Login can join easily. Win10 user can send invites to iOS user but iOS does not get the notifications. However a iOS user with Xbox Login can join with some effort and a workaround:
Open world in Win10
Connect with iOS and will display a connecting window that gets stuck for a long time
Close world in Win10 and reopen
iOS message will say "looking for server" then it will magically load!!
I have not tried connecting the Switch to the Win10 world.
World on Switch:
iOS cannot join, invites don't notify iOS user. Friend list in Switch displays multiple instances of the same friends, I had 3 two days ago and now there are 5. I have not tried to join with Win10.
World on iOS: Win10 can join easily but Switch cannot, the iOS world is not displayed in the switch on the friends tab. In order to join it has to be with a workaround. To connect a Switch console to the iOS world one needs to be logged in Win10 and the Switch:
Join the iOS world with the Win10 first, and leave the game
On the iOS, as soon as the Win10 person leaves the Invite Friend button may suddenly appear (may take more than one try).
iOS person then needs to invite the Win10/Switch person
Win10/Switch should get the invite notification and may join with the Switch!!!
I wish I had Minecraft for Android and Xbox to try to connect to Win10, Switch and iOS but this is as much I can provide. I understand Cross-Platform is a hard thing to do and I appreciate the work the Devs are doing to bring Cross-Platform Minecraft to every device imaginable. Please fix this issue, I believe it to be a problem with the server code running in the iOS platform.

Is this still an issue in the latest version?

I have not found a workaround to this version. iOS to iOS can send invite but when accepting the invite it never goes anywhere. Loging out of both iOS devices and trying LAN connections works at connecting but the game stays in the loading screen where the notification like block that shows the loading progress stays gray. Switch to iOS is the same. I cannot get notifications for invites on switch from iOS. Once again. Win 10 stayed just like the original post

I think my issue is similar, though i just can't join anyone at all and no one can join me. Servers don't load, realms and friend worlds don't show on friends tab, store and achievements also just sit and load infinitely. Recent update has allowed me to send and receive invites again, though ever since v1.5.2, nothing that requires internet will ever load. **Before this everything was fine and dandy so idk what happened. Cellular data use to work, but now not even that will help anything to load.
Edit: I forgot to add that after a couple failed attempts to join a server, after turning off my phone and coming back a couple mins later, even though I'm not on the server loading screen, I would then get a message on screen saying I need to authenticate xbox live. My account settings have never changed, and I even went to check to settings yet again and everything that should allow me to play is allowed.
I think I know the answer, but just to rule one scenario out, do the issues with joining other worlds occur after leaving the device on standby for a long time, and then resuming the app? If so, does restarting the device allow you to connect to multiplayer games again?
Is anyone still having these issues in the latest version (1.8.1)? If so, could you please add anymore information that might help us reproduce the problem.
Still an issue in 1.9.0.15 but can't provide any information to reproduce

Still an issue up to 1.10.0 for me, 1.11 was just released and I haven't tested it yet, will update when I do. As for the question about device standby, no. Even after completely rebooting my phone and opening minecraft, the issue still occurs, store takes forever to load, don't get invites, can't send invites, can't connect to realms or friends... etc. Using a VPN, however, I've been able to get friend's worlds and realms to even APPEAR in the friends tab, however I'm still unable to connect to any (though servers, external and dedicated, still do appear in the servers tab, with and without a VPN, again can't connect to those either) . The store also loads just a bit faster with the VPN.
Oh, and LAN worlds work (without VPN). I can connect to and play LAN worlds, but everything else is a bust.
Currently running v1.10.0 on iOS 12.1.2, iPhone 8. A new software update is available, and I'll update my results when I install it and update.
Also, need to add this happens with connections to android as well. Connections to android as well as switch have all met with failure, even when joining servers that probably aren't platform dependent (external servers, and dedicated ones, as well as realms.) Though again, when connecting to android through LAN, it works fine.

Experiencing this in 1.11, been happening since 1.8, I used to be able to play through xbox live on windows 10 with a friend also on W10 (we've also tried from android to w10, I can play on servers and LAN just fine but xbox live just results in 'unable to connect to server', it's been so long since I've been able to play with anyone, connection issues should have more priority.

Same issue is happening with me but from Xb to Xb. I hate that I have to play on an older version just so that I can be able to connect to my friend’s worlds

I just tried it with an iPad Air, a Windows 10, and an Android. Different networks, different Xbox live accounts. We were able to connect one time to the iPad Air hosted world, but nothing else worked, even when we tried it again. We were using 1.11.4 on Bedrock.

On Win10 v1.12.0 while joining Realms it hangs on `Loading Resources` for a while and then immediately `Unable to connect to world.`. This only affects my user. Closing and opening the realm has no effect. Loading a backup has no effect, joining through VPN managed to un-jam whatever gets jammed on the server, until that got blocked. Sometimes other players logging in kicks the server in a state where my user's not dropped, but this isn't working consistently, like any of my previous methods.
Also even though my friends are on the server, the realm shows 0 people on the server.

This is also true of 1.12.0 Windows 10 edition. No one has been able to join my worlds for a really long time, is this mojang's way of forcing us to play on realms?!

Me and my friend have been playing together on our PCs for the past year on a single world and now all of a sudden we’re unable to connect to one another, this is so infuriating that there’s still no solution for such a mundane problem.

Me and my friend were playing together in a single world for a few weeks now. but yesterday all of us were kicked out of the world except the owner of the world. and since the every time i try to join it shows "Unable to connect to world".
how can I solve this problem?

You might have to check your router settings and open some ports, or have your friend open some ports.
Try opening ports: 19132, 19133, and 25565

So I used to play with a friend with the Xbox Live multiplayer, but now we can't, even if I try to join her world or if she tries to join mine, we get the same message
"Unable to connect to world". How is it possible that we were able to play and now suddenly we can't. Is it because of the Update? Please fix this, I'd rather be able to play with my friend than have more bioms on the nether.

I created a world on my Windows Minecraft to play with a friend who uses Xbox. I've played cross-server several times and never had this problem: If I create the world he has a lot of lag an cannot break things or see himself moving around as if his connection was bad but it's fine. And so, he did a server and when I joined it, i started having the same issues.
Is there any way to solve this?

It also sometimes skips over ‘downloading resource pack’ which is frustrating because you know the result is going to be ‘unable to connect to world’. But I have 2 friends that I have this problem with and they are in the same house but all my other friends can connect just not me with my IOS. I have uninstalled minecraft, installed it again, lost my worlds, and it has worked but only once after re-instalment before it goes back to ‘unable to connect to world’. I am sure that one of the friends with the ‘server’ are on Xbox not sure of the other (PS4 or Xbox maybe). But then again another friend has Xbox and I connect to them just fine, and their device is very far from where I live whilst the troublesome servers (my two friends) aren’t nearly as far. I really hope you can fix this frustrating issue for I have read apple store reviews similar to my problem regarding IOS
Kind regards,
A long-term fan

Before the Playstation 4 edition was transferred to bedrock edition (allowing cross-platform across the switch, Xbox, etc...), I could play with any of my friends on Minecraft Playstation 4 edition. Since the update, I have not been able to play online multiplayer with anyone on my platform (PS4). When you join it loads for a minute or two, then says: "Unable to connect to world." I have tried going back to the old version of the game to try multiplayer and still when joining, the message shows up again. The edition as listed on the Playstation was: 2.05 - Minor bug and crash fixes. If any more info is needed please let me know.

My friends and I are trying to play in a world together.
I am on a PS4. My friends are all on PCs, using minecraft for windows 10.
All of us have Microsoft accounts and we are friends on there. When we go to add friends to world, one of two things happen.
1) If I send the invite, they never receive a notification.
2) If they send an invite, I get a notification and try to join but it gives me a error saying the world is not joinable.
I have looked everywhere for answers. If anyone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it. I have played with other PS4 friends without problems but now that I'm trying to play we PC users I'm having issues

When trying to join a friend on Minecraft it keeps on saying unable to connect to the world. I have a wired connection, tried different devices( I mainly use an Xbox One), and have used different accounts.

For me its different, I tried to open all ports, but I still have a moderate NAT, and UPNP host doesnt want to start I got the error 1068 every time I try,
I can't join my PS4 brother's world but he can join all of mine (Minecraft from Windows 10 Store) and we are on the same network

On PlayStation 4, the same “unable to connect” message pops up whenever I try joining anyone’s world or anyone tries to join mine. I’ve reinstalled Minecraft 4 times. Logged out and in 4 time, Reset my PS4, Deleted all cached data on game and in Ps4 system storage, Check for updates. I have paid for this game and the issues has been ongoing since this new cross play bedrock edition update came along in December 2019. I am a very unsatisfied and frustrated customer!

me and my friend cant join each others worlds, we are both on ps4 so no cross platforming but its saying "unable to connect". i checked all the settings were okay and still nothing. Very upset 😞

In Android 10 there is an error -9 when logging in with any Xbox live account, I tried another device with Android 5.0.1 and log in correctly.

This seemed to be fixed for a few hours yesterday (april 11th), but now its broken again.

So I have the problem since 2019 (the crossplatform update) xD... I can’t join my friends servers and my friends can’t join me and I’m playing on PlayStation 4.. would be great if it finally gets fixed.

I am also getting the "Unable to connect to world," error. However, it does not happen all the time. When my friend first starts his multiplayer game, I am able to connect. If I log in, then log out, and try to log back in I get the "Unable to connect..." error until he completely exits Minecraft and relaunches the game on his xbox. This happens on Xbox, PC, and Android versions of the game.
My assumption, the Xbox sees that someone has logged in, but then doesn't see that they exited the server. So, when trying to connect a second time, the server thinks that person has already connected and blocks the connection until the app is reset.

It still doesn't work. Everything we've tried that has been suggested, still does not work. He's on ps4 with NAT type OPEN, NO firewall. Im on win 10 pc NAT type OPEN, no firewall. Created new worlds on both platforms, not working. Changed our skins to Steve, not working. Uninstalled and reinstalled, not working.
Just yesterday we were able to connect to both of our worlds played all day, now nothing and nothing has changed.

This still doesn't help my issue with trying to view my sister's world on Ps4 and not even seeing that she is playing it while I'm on Win 10

Having the same exact problem on iOS 12.3.1. When hosting a game from different platform(for my case android 7), iOS will always stuck at the long "connecting to world" window and then follows with a message "Unable to connect to world"

This is even worse than Skin Duplicating bug. This needs to be fixed.

I appreciate with the current environment that things are challenging, but this has been almost six months like this. Why no reverse the change you made?
I am already annoyed about skins on LAN.... this is just very disappointing that you broke one of the main features that I use with the kids...

So sad about this 😞
PS4 to PS4, unable to connect to world. Tried all sorts of things now searched for hours online going through all the ideas everyone has suggested.
Crazy to me this is not being fixed! It should be put in the description on the purchasing page of this game in the Playstation store that online doesn't work! Because that is what I bought it for and what my girlfriend bought it for and we cannot use it!

Hi @dot and anyone else experiencing Ps4 sign in problems -
Could you please start a Private thread with the following details and @ me in the discussion (@khenckel)? Please also assign the issue to me.
PSN account name
Gamertag (if you have linked your PSN and Xbox Live accounts)
Approximate day and time when you observed the issue
Frequency (does this happen every time you try to sign in, or only sometimes?)
Have you signed in successfully before on your Playstation? If you have a friend with a different Playstation console, are you able to sign in on their console?
If you have linked your Xbox Live account and PSN, can you sign in with this account on a non-PS4 device (e.g. in Xbox App on iPhone/Android/Win10)
Video of what you are seeing

All the multiplayer connect issues are being put under this ticket however there is a new issue that I don’t think is the same as thisOne. Prior to May 2nd 2020 we able to play multiplayer on an ios world shared with Xbox and PC on different LANs. Since the last update the Xbox/PC users have not been able to connect to the ios game. Ios on the same network can still connect. Many people are having this issue if you have a look at the increase in new tickets on this issue and reddit.
Is this an ‘enhancement’ of the new version so that you have to pay for realms or is it a bug fix?

This happens for me on Nintendo switch

@Parker Has this only been in the last week or so? Were you able to do it before?

No it’s been a few months and we’ve never been able to do it

The issue we have is only recent - since the latest patch. Before that we were able to play multiplayer across different devices.

Is there any timeline on when this will get fixed? Because I am not able to play by myself on xbox. It seems the login is messed up.

I am on Android. And i used to able to join my friends world.
But not anymore. He also can't join my world 😞 and i cant join a
Server named Minevillcity. Which is a featured server in the game. It just keep loading but never complete that.

I can join my brother that has a Microsoft account but if I join my friends with a Microsoft account, it says UNABLE TO CONNECT TO WORLD 😡😡😡

Switch1: If your other friend is offline, but she/he actually online. This happened to me. :/

I host my world on PC, and it says my friend (on Xbox One) is in the game, with no join message. But for him, its stuck on 'Locating Server'. And it shows him as left the game after a while (despite no message saying he joined).
I join his world, and it shows me as not moving at all. However on my screen I can move around. Breaking blocks doesn't show the progress break on the block, and it just disappears. No item dropped.
I've documented what I've done to change my NAT to open (finally after nearly 10 hours) in MCPE-77090. But the issue persists.

Are you a Brazilian? lets talk in portuguese about that bug, and maybe play together

Yeah I can havent been able to join my friends in 4 weeks. I play switch and my friends I am trying to join play PE

I already report itike two weeks ago, but i still couldnt find a way to resolved it and i playing in android

I play on IOS and I can’t join my friends on Xbox, I can’t seem to be able to join servers either.
I hope this gets fixed soon, and not wait till the Nether Update.

Recent Issue
Hello, Reporter and MOJANG Studios. Today, Minecraft Connection hasn’t work, cause of your “Microsoft “ XBOX LIVE, you should work around it too, not just go around checking this up. And the recent issue was, I was gonna join a realm but in the Friends Section , the realm owner text was blank, also I checked the XBOX LIVE app, I saw everyone is offline and didn’t show them up also the feed won’t show up, and load. Here’s more photos

this is an old problem since I started playing Minecraft on my phone, it has this annoying connection problem. limit is five but at most I can only play with two more when I try hard I lost count of how many times I close and open the game until it works and unfortunately there are days that I give up playing

Happen to me!!! Need to resolve this.

Certainly this error has to be solved, is it an old and persistent problem

try doing a speed test on Google (search "speed test" on Google) or other apps to prove that your internet is good and it's a multiplayer bug

And what do I do if I want to play with mobile people?
i need help pls

I still can't play minecraft with my friends on Ps4. I purchased Playstation plus just to play minecraft in multiplayer! I also contacted my wifi operator who created public IP and everything else (as recommended in ps4) but still nothing.
What else should I do?

the other screenshot that was diffrent language translates this:
Unable to connect to the world.

Until this evening, I've been able to connect my iOS PE to a Switch account. It stopped tonight and gives me the same "Unable to connect to world." message as I get on XBox.

the nether update is coming tomorrow. but this bug is not fixed yet. DISSAPOINTED.

This Bug Is For The Most Part Going To Disappear After 1.16.0 Comes Out

The bug, may not be fixed when 1.16.0 is out, because MOJANG, can miss a bug.

Even with the update, I'm still having the same problem with multiplayer. It just says unable to connect to world whenever I try to join a friends, and they are unable to join mine to.

It also affects the official 1.16.

On the PS4, I found that a couple of my friends were able to play together after signing out of their Microsoft accounts and signing in with a Microsoft account they made not the game, was not able to test this myself as my application refuses to start.

Its not a connection issue its a bug i have tried 10 people joining my games on xbox and on pc and its still broken i have outstanding wifi and a good ping and it continues to not work

This issue is affecting my family as well. We're on Xbox One and we're unable to connect to our friends' worlds (also Xbox One) and they're unable to connect to ours. We had been joining without issue several times per week for about 6 months and then it just stopped working.
Both our and our friends' NAT is Open and both of us can play online without issue on other games.
Is this an official bug? Is there a fix for this? Is there a time frame for the fix?

Android + iOS = yes/no:
Y: Some of my friends can join
N: Some of my friends can't
Xbox + iOS = no - Can't Connect
PC + iOS = no - Can't Connect also.
PC + Android = no - IDK why
PC + Xbox = yes/no - i have no idea
Switch + Xbox = yes/no
Y: some can join
N: other friends can't
Switch + PC = yes/no?
Switch + iOS = yes/no
Switch + Android = no

please fix thissss

Damn 2 years and they still havent fixed this yet, its fustrating, i cant join my friends world on xbox (im on pc)

Really? Still not fixed? That’s some bad quality service

Don’t make fun of the devs. This is not easy to fix but may be fixed soon. Please be nice.

thay fixed a bit of the multiplayer sytem since 1.16 i now can conect to frieand on ios

Yesterday, i found a solution. But it is clearly not a permanent one. I used the VPN of my university... I was connected to it in it works. So if you have a VPN try to use it and check if it works.

PLEASE FIX THIS!

We need a fix to this now!

Still no update?

Are you one off Brent rivera's friends

It is now july 7th 2020 .. and i have been at this for about 2 months trying all sorts to fix this issue with me not being able to join my ps4 friends and them not being able to join me. Since becoming cross platformed it has broken the game, and im very disappointed. It seems to have gotten worse with the last couple of updates as it now takes it in turns for me and my friends not even being able to load the game. I now throughly regret getting my friend to buy this game to play with me as its caused nothing but hassle!

Please fix this, im having the same issue and i have nat A, i tried eveything and still getting "Disconnected from server"

So I think this might work for everyone, try asking people to restart Minecraft and join them again. Hope this works.

Has anyone got this to work? On iOS Minecraft is pretty glitchy especially when connecting to the Microsoft account. I can’t add any friends or join their serves it glitches and shuts the app off.

I'm having... Not quite the same issue, but a similar issue to bugs that have been closed as duplicates of this one.
I'm getting stuck on "Locating Server" when joining a specific world. We're both on Switch, v1.16.1. Doesn't matter if it's LAN or internet. Other worlds work. There's nothing obviously weird about this particular world; we've hardly explored or built much of anything.

Having the same problem as you on PS4, Benjamin Larsen. So frustrating.

Same, the problem does not let me connect with my friends, from win10 to android it does not work, from win10 to win10 it does not work, from Android to Android it does not work, from android using vpn it works but no, it stays in locating server, all this in version 1.16.1.02

I'm still having this issue even when I made adjustments to my router and everything. My friends can join my world, but I can't join their worlds. Is it because their world is older and my account is new? Or is it because my NAT type being B doesn't work with my friends? My friend also plays on the Switch and he can join on my friends cross play world on the PS4 and he also didn't need to make any adjustments to his router or Switch to get it to work so why did I have to and even then the problem wasn't resolved?

I have the same/similar issue. I've setup a Windows 10 Bedrock server (1.16.02) that works on a whitelist basis which local (LAN) users are able to connect to but remote (WAN) users are unable to join (their gamertag and xuid have been populated within whitelist.json). The server log shows the remote user's gamertag as "connected" and then automatically "disconnects" them about 25s later, but provides no further detail. Within the game their player appears briefly at the spawning point and the remote user sees the messages "Locating Server", "Unable to connect to World". My WAN address is static and my router is set to forward TCP/UDP to port 19132 on the Bedrock server. Correct operation of the port forwarding has been confirmed with a port checker.
This behaviour is the same for multiple remote users, though one is able to successfully connect to the server which demonstrates there is not a fundamental issue with my router or firewall settings. Could the issue be associated with Xbox Live user authentication or the remote user's Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety Settings? If so, what are the correct settings to allow server access?
I've reviewed the "potential workaround" posted to this issue but it doesn't really address what appears to be a more fundamental issue with WAN user access to the Bedrock server.

I'm having the same problem, but on android. I've tried the instructions but nothing happens!

Similar issue with newest update to iOS 1.16.10. When trying to play friends on our network we’ve run into an issue with the 1.16.10 update on my son’s tablet. His tablet cannot join our network game on the PS4. When trying to join it gets to the locating server and then never progresses. My other son can join with his tablet that did not update and is still running 1.16.1. The tablet running 1.16.10 can join my son’s game on his tablet. If my son running 1.16.10 is hosting the game I can join with my PS4.

I also have a problem like this with my xbox one version of minecraft. I found out that I cannot connect with one of my friends, but I can connect with another. However, if either of them tries to join one of my worlds, they cannot connect to my world. I want to be able to connect to any of my friends and have them connect with me as well. I've tried everything, such as change my NAT Type to Open, uninstall and reinstall the game, restart my Xbox, and nothing seems to work. This is all with the latest update to Minecraft for Xbox One V1.16.1, hopefully whatever is causing this gets fixed soon. Before the update I use to be able to connect with any of my friends, but now I cannot.

As my report (MCPE-70004), sometimes people shows everyone as offline, and it doesn’t let me join the world, Too.

Also having issues. I can join any of the featured servers, but I cannot join any other server; I get 'unable to connect to world'. Also cannot see friends online when i know they are. We could do with a explanation of the necessary xbox privacy and online settings to refer to to check confirm it's not an incorrectly selected radio button blocking some features of the game (using v.1.16.10)

If mojang please, make MCPE-70004 related to this issue. It is to be honest.

I play on Nintendo Switch and ive been trying to play with my PS4 friends i have restarted the game and restarted my world and sometimes it might let them join but it is extremely hard to do, sometimes its like 30 minutes of continuous restating and reloading. I am not sure if it is my Microsoft account or the game itself. But i can still perfectly join my Nintendo switch friends.

I'm playing on android and my girlfriend also playing on android. I'm attempting to join her world but gives me a long "connecting to multiplayer" then afterwards unable to connect. My girlfriend also try to join my world but it also appears to her phone. I wish this bug will be fix. It ruins the multiplayer play of bedrock edition.

I play on the IOS version, i have been having this issue for the entirety of the day, my only workaround was a one time thing which consisted of deleting my minecraft and redownloading it, this doesn't work for many people as they have worlds they aren’t willing to part with, i roleplay frequently on a external server which I have to add by IP and port.
I have been trying to join it for the entire day and only got on one time due to my deleting and redownloading minecraft, now when i try join i get the same message as before deleting my minecraft “Unable to join” please fix this when possible (Ver 1.16.20 IOS 13.5.1)

Before the official version 1.16.20 this bug did not happen to me, so it seems that the latest official versions (1.16.20 and 1.16.30) made this bug worse.

I am DEEPLY DISSATISFIED with Xbox Live, it has many flaws and bugs.
MCPE-36190
MCPE-29304
MCPE-45385
probably these bugs occur because of microsoft rigidity, i am under age (15y) and i created an account with my real age and xbox live didn’t allow me to play multiplayer, and unfortunately I had to create an account over 20 YEARS, this is really VERY exhausting!!!

Affects 1.16.100.54

In addition, invitations and notifications of achievements do not appear. in the changelog says that this only occurs on Win10, but also on Android.

Using android as are 2 others on same wifi. No restricted skins. Latest version. Two tablets can connect to each others worlds but not mine,(smartphone) and I can only connect to theirs if I connect to a server world first, (this does not work for their connection to me). Tried resetting wifi rebooting devices. Not cross platform but still happening. Only started 2 days ago when we updated minecraft (two updates in quick succession), no problems previous 6 months of playing together. No changes to our setup other than two recent minecraft updates .
First symptom was shortly after updating to 1.16.20. my world appeared to stay available to join under friends tab for about 6 hours after I had quit out (there had still been 1 friend with me in the world afk) (showing 2 of 5 friends) and even when I loaded or created other worlds they were not visible, only the old one. This old world showed v 1.16.20 despite my having updated all 3 devices to 1.16.40 shortly after quitting it. The broken world eventually disappeared but now I have no luck connecting as described above

Or it got worse in the last two versions of Minecraft, or it has to do with the changes (update) made by Microsoft in the Xbox Live.

~J p Yes, although I have suffered from multiplayer bugs before, it seems that in version 1.16.20 it has aggravated this bug even more, and persists until now in the current 1.16.40

The workarounds dont mention how to troubleshoot android . . .

We can play multiplayer LAN and server but not multiplayer with xbox account, this is because NAT, we need NAT with the name "full cone" to play multiplayer with xbox account. This is why VPN is needed.
Developers have to fix this so that we can play multiplayer with xbox accounts without paying attention to NAT.
Please fix this problem using vpn is very annoying

iOS definitely still has issues with communicating over Xbox Live for LAN gameplay without NAT in 1.16.40. I was able to mess around with my router last night and now I can play LAN multiplayer with my brothers (one has an Android and the other an iOS). That shouldn’t have to happen, though. This is likely just a complication with iOS and Xbox Live, though, so I’m not sure how the devs would address this, especially if their higher ups are the ones making them use Xbox Live for multiplayer.

My friend and I played on Android, and after version 1.16.20 I couldn't enter his world anymore, and neither did he in mine. Before 1.16.20 we played normally, but I don't know if the problem is with the version or any changes made on Xbox Live.

Uninstalled xbox app from android today and was able to connect using web version xbox live. Only worked for 1 session and then back to nothing working

Those of you who are having similar issues to MCPE-62245, MCPE-83427, and MCPE-50135,
Here’s a step-by-step workaround that we stumbled upon after copying our survival world and trying different things:
All players need to move away from the glitched player* and unload that chunk (12-24 chunks at least. One chunk is 16 blocks). Make sure the glitched player is currently “locating server”.
All players except the host must leave the server. If the glitched player* has a non-Xbox or alternate Xbox account in the world, then you might need to move them away from those chunks as well. (Maybe has something to do with device memory)
Host will need to restart or close the server and rejoin with no additional players other than the glitched player* (with Xbox account).
If the glitched player* passes the “locating server” window and successfully joins, then all other players may join and go back to the chunk where the glitched player* spawned.
*Glitched Player: a player that is visible in the world while joining but cannot move or join and stuck in the "locating server" window.
If these steps do not work on 1.16.40, you may need to copy your world, enable cheats, and do all sorts of things to remove whatever you think is causing the bug. Try unloading or removing chunks, removing all entities around the glitched player, remove all blocks placed by any player, make sure players are not carrying any items in their inventory and etc.
It seems like there’s an issue with loading chunks or player data when a player is trying to read (render chunks, load chests and hoppers, biome data, player inventories) and write (placing and interacting with blocks and entities) in the world, which might require unloading corrupt chunks to clear chunk memory and reload them without losing data.

Affects 1.16.100.55 beta

Fatih's description works like a charm, we figured that the glitch happened when my friend tried to logout and then login.
So I took down the render distance to minimum, my friend was trying to log in, then I moved away ~400 blocks, restarted the game hosting and it solved our problem!!!
Possible SOLUTION:

This issue have also happened to me, multiple times. First time was when i was joining a friends world. Myself as well as others were joining her world. She was on windows10 while myself and the others were on moblie/ our phones. All they could get in. I know for a fact that it isnt my internet nor theirs. I was easily about to join her other worlds and others peoples worlds and they could join mine. Now the second time this happned was actually with a realm. Today infact. Because ive been here before and ive done so mych on this realm that my friend owns, i wasnt gonna let this slid like i did the world. Ive decided to do whatever i could. I have done everything common like logged out of minecraft and my xbox account but nothing worked. I have even gone onto my ipad with the same account and it does the same thing so i think if its not a problem with internet i think its a problem with the xbox/microsoft accounts. I really hope my information helps and that it isnt something that has been repetitively been said. I have not read the other comments, i just want to get back onto the realm before then end of September since i have to get alot together in the realm in preparation for halloween. (Lol that kinda sounds dumb) but thank you for your help. I hope you see this

This issue also happens to me. I don't get notified from invites and I can't join my own LAN game. In 1.16.3, LAN games worked fine until the 1.16.4 hotfix. My android device is signed into an alternative account for AFK time that is friends on Xbox Live and I cannot join my own world on iOS. When I try to join onto my own world from a different device and account via LAN, it always says "Unable to connect to world." I tried everything to fix this issue and nothing works.

This bug got worse at 1.16.40, I have two friends who are unable to connect to the xbox live account after restarting the game.

Had a very similar issues before the previous 'hotfix'. Me and my friend have a shared game of which she is the host. She is on a PS4 I am on a switch and I cannot connect to the world. She can login without much hassle however she cannot load her customised character. However, I cannot load in a all. I can see the game is online but when I try to load in the 'connecting to multiplayer game' load screen stays up continuously for several minutes until the screen goes blank and then an error message comes up saying the connection has timed out and I'm unable to connect to the world (see attached images).

i've seen a few people encountering a world-specific connection issue when their world is large in size (100-200mb+), has anyone else encountered multiplayer issues just as their world size becomes 100-200mb+?

@Skaijie Yep, our world size is above 200+ MB

facing the same problem when try to join multiplay with Android minecraft from iphone minecraft with below spec
ios 13.4.1, minecraft 1.16.v50
android 10, minecraft 1.16.40
world size 38mb
edited
i has discover that i can join multiplay by no sign in window xbox account in same network

Me:
Android 9, Minecraft v1.16.40
World size 95mb

Me:
ps4, minecraft v1.16.61
world size 366.2mb

@jazzy 's workaround (only join as local account) also worked for us, but we tried finding another workaround (which can be found in this comment section for Xbox accounts) since my friend would've lost his inventory.

@Fatih, ya, the inventory will be empty

Similar problem, on Minecraft 1.16.50 on iPad Mini 4, running iPadOS 14.2.

I’m on an iPhone, and my friend is on an iPad and I’ve been having this problem around the time iOS 14 dropped. I’ve been able to join the worlds before but now I can join theirs at all. Yet I can join other peoples worlds and they can join theirs. But it seems that mobile just can’t join mobile. I hope this bug gets fixed. But any ideas on how to fix it?

I am on Android... This bug ruins a weekly game play session with friends 4 friends...
Also, I would like to add the "Use Cellular Data" toggle is pointless if you cannot play on another's world. That could be a work around for those of us with unlimited data but, MC demands wifi is to used to join friend worlds...
UPDATE: The "Use Cellular Data" toggle does nothing more than allow you to use the Marketplace right now. It is supposed to allow multiplayer over data too. But after doing some testing, that is found to be broken too.
VPN work-arounds do not work either. MCPE will base your data signal over VPN signal. Which means the typical Java edition work-around failed (though it worked on many other games).

Adding these to my updated comment.

I was directed to this place. This happened to me and my friend use win 10 and me using android. My friend join me on my world in multiplayer. We're doing fine this last month before the .40 update. And after the update, we still can play several times, and suddenly we can't anymore. I can't go to their world and me can't go to their world. I don't know what happened, obviously not the connection probs since we already tried on our last three consecutive days. We didn't change anything on the settings. My friend is in bedrock ed and me in PE of course. Please resolve this 😔 (ps: i can join on the servers though. But can't play multiplayer)

If you encounter multiplayer issues on a specific world when its world size increases to somewhere between 100MB to 300MB, see MCPE-90372

I have tried every single posible workaround listed here, in all of youtube, reddit, and twitter... nothing works... so am I not able to play with my fiends anymore? has it become a single player game for me because of a bug?... if that is the case.. I WANT MY MONEY BACK.... can't join any new or old world and friends can't join any new or old world I generate.

Any world hosted on LAN are not joinable by other client on LAN & in world owner's Xbox Live "Friends" list.
However,
Any world hosted on LAN are joinable by other client on LAN,but not in world owner's Xbox Live "Friends" list.
You guys just have to type a line of code that would mean like:
"if client/host is on the LAN and authenticated in client/host's Xbox Live "Friends" list, then receive/connect to the client/host via LAN (while still connected to Internet/Xbox Live)".
Or just show the host ip/port in the host's pause menu so other player could easily add to the "servers" tab instead
You guys really are doing great on this wonderful game.Keep it up! 😉👍

I have been having this problem for that last week and I can't even connect with my friends on the Switch anymore. It's that bad and REALLY needs an update before I go insane. 😞

I ever got this issue, but it happened to one of my friends. That time we were connected to the same wifi. However, I could not join my friend's world, while my sibling could. That was odd because later at night my sibling and I wanted to play multi again and we could connect together.
Not an important note, but I felt like I was discriminated that time

I got this same issue on PS4. Can't connect to friends or he cant connect to my world and those workarounds doesn't work. It would be really nice to be able to play a game we paid for

This bug is ruining the Better Together Update

It would be great,if we could maybe play the game we PAID for. How long does it take to fix this...

THis issue exists on Ipads as well. ALbeit we log in via xbox accounts on our ipads.

I’ve been playing on my iPhone 8 Plus and my brother has been playing on his old Samsung s5, and all I had to do to make LAN multiplayer work was to (1) make sure our Xbox Live accounts were friends, (2) opened ports for the LAN to work (port forwarding) in the first place, using the guides shown in “potential workarounds” at the top of this report and through googling how to do it with my router, and (3) making sure both of the accounts were over 18. I’m unsure if this only works for my devices and router (Netgear), so if someone else could try this with different devices and a different router, I’m sure this would be helpful to the mods and devs of Mojang, who are more than aware of the issue.

I have the issue but where I'm only able to join specific people through the multiplayer system, but for most people this doesn't work

Alright, lets put in more details for this bug. I have a pretty different problem regarding connecting to servers created by friends. Those who have hosted their own world on Nintendo Switch that are open to play can't exactly be reached by Windows 10/Xbox/Andriod/iOS, but if you host a world on Windows 10/Xbox/Andriod/iOS, other than the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch can connect to those who have hosted their worlds on Windows 10/Xbox/Andriod/iOS.
I was trying to connect to a world that's been hosted by a friend on Nintendo Switch, and I have tested this using Windows 10/Xbox/Andriod/iOS, and each device I tested gave me "Locating Server" and I have left the devices on for a full 24 hours and it seems that the host of the world can see the player's character but the devices are still stuck on "Locating Server" I have checked to see if it was Nintendo's Online Membership, but it says I have it paid and running, all devices are connected to an Xbox Live account and all have Xbox Live active on each account.
I hope this helps somehow, but I have a feeling that if I make a new ticket with these same details it will be resolved by "Duplicated".
[media]
More than a year to undo the code that caused this mess.... very disappointed that you can't fix this obvious bug.
Xbox One still cannot connect to PC worlds over LAN. No issues with PC to PC or PC to Xbox...
How much longer to fix this? Will you even bother to reply with useful information?

I am able to play other games online with my switch so it is not a switch connection problem

This happens to me as well - I am on Windows 10, one of my friends is on PlayStation 4, and the other is on an iPad. They can join each other, I am the only one with issues. None of the workarounds seem to help me, and I get stuck on Locating Server and cannot select the "Cancel" button. I have to restart Minecraft to gain the ability to join other worlds or servers.

Recently, Android versions were updated to 1.16.101. PS4 has not received this update yet.
Prior to the 101 update, we would all play on local Wi-Fi together with never an issue.
Since the 101 update, the Android clients can't see the world(s) hosted on the PS4. Android can see each other, and if they host a world, PS4 can see/join.
Unfortunately this doesn't help us all play the world we have been working on for months.
I'm cross posting this comment from MCPE-108727 as that's the most relevant issue that I got when searching for "1.16.101 PS4"... I only found this issue after heading to one discussing Switch and PS4 cross play. I'm not sure if this is a precise duplicate, but most of what I read in the initial comments and pinned work-around do not (or should not) apply to local connectivity.
UPDATE: After downloading the .200 update on PS4, we saw the issue I was experiencing was still a problem. Tablets couldn't connect to our world on PS4. On a whim, I decided to go to the world settings at the selection screen. Multiplayer was still enabled. I toggled it off and back on and tried again. Tablets could then immediately see the world when loaded. I have no idea what or why this fixed it... Keeping prior text for historical. Feel free to delete this comment as needed.

To put it simply;
1.win10 + android + is friends on Xbox Live + LAN = "Unable to connect to world"
2.win10 + android + is friends on Xbox Live (not in LAN) = Connected normally
3.win10 + android + LAN (while not friends on Xbox Live) = Connected normally
However,I'm being able to do "1" by using VPN.This bug varies across platforms but it worth try using VPN.
As for my condition (1),minecraft maybe somehow conflicts the network.

Imagine all the kids who are going to get minecraft for christmas and try to play with there friends and they cant because of a bug 😞

I have bought Minecraft for myself and for two of my friends for christmas and now I can't play with them because of this bug... fix this or I want my money back

My family used to play Minecraft together on an XBox, PC (Win10), and two iPads. Ever since 1.16.100 released it's been a crapshoot for whether the iOS users can connect to the world. We even bought a realm to see if that helps, but the iPads still have trouble connecting to it. The iPad can connect with our servers (either hosted on the XBox or the realm) maybe 1 out of 10 times. Pretty frustrating...this issue has been happening for a couple of months now. Shocked that it hasn't gotten fixed yet.

Unable to connect to world” error.
This forces all parties to have to restart their consoles and games. There is no problem elsewhere with internet connectivity and only happens when on minecraft. All 3 parties are on the Nintendo switch. There are no different consoles in the mix. All on the same version too.

I cannot play with my friens for long time because this bug

There is a problem. Im trying to ply with family, and they are on the same WIFI as me. I am still unable to connect and the worlds are not showing through LAN. It is showing up as a friend and even then he is unable to connect to my world and i cant connect to his.

This just started for me on 1/2/2021.
I've been playing with my daughter for some time (6-8+ weeks). Her on Nintendo Switch and I on my gaming PC.
Windows10 PC: - This is where the game is hosted.
Nintendo Switch - This is the device my daughter uses.
The Switch game crashed and now she only gets "Locating Server" message when trying to load. I see the "Player has entered the game" message and "Player has left the game" when she hits cancel, at which point the Switch game doesn't respond and will end up crashing when trying to close the application.
I can join her world.
I can create a new world and she can join.
She cannot join me in our world we've spent many hours building in.
There seems to be some bad data in her user profile for that world that's causing her to crash when trying to load.
I tried creating a copy of the world via export/import and that didn't help.
I'm not sure if there's a way to "clear" her profile out of the world to force the world to see her as a brand-new player and place her at the original spawn location with no inventory. That would be fine, we can always gear her up again. I don't want to toss away all the hours of work and start over.
edit We are on the same network.
edit 2 - I've found a workaround for my situation. It involved using a Minecraft editor to delete all but the ~local_player players from the world. This clears all the players data such that when my daughters character tries to load the world, she's a "never before seen" player and will start fresh with no inventory.
Yes, this means she lost her entire inventory. This will suck if you had some nice armor/weapons (and are playing an "honest" survival game) but at least, for us, we can continue playing together and everything else in the world, our buildings and chests of stored items, are still there.
I found a free editor called "Universal Minecraft Editor". I'm not sure anything about this software but seemed to let me modify my world file pretty easily. It leads to my suspicion that something on her player data was corrupted after a crash and caused the game to get stuck on the loading screen.

Hello, we have just installed two new ipads for my two kids. Both have Microsoft account with identical settings. We are all on the same wifi. Still I can connect with one kid, but not with the other. They can't connect with each other. We see each other's world, but get the "Unable to connect to world" message when trying to join. I can see many others face the same issue ... could you please look at the issue? Thanks!

Unable to play cross platform between PS4 & Xbox One. Both bedrock Edition. Both have microsoft accounts. PS4 has PS Now & PS+ and Xbox has xbox Live Gold . All setting for crossplay correct. Added as a friend and able to see each other is online within minecraft. However unable to play together. Message of 'unable to connect to worlds' appears no matter who tries to join who. Both machines within same network (home). Tried unfriending and re-friending. Resetting router.
We Able to see each other. Can join servers together and join matches together via adding invites. However we are 'unable to connect to world' either PS4 to XBox One s or visa versa.
Checked all settings as per (MCPE-36190) and they are correct
Thank you

resolved my issue. PS4 was was connect to network via ethernet cable. Xbox connect over wifi but on the guest network and not main network. Changed to main network and now working. Hope this may help someone

I have the Nat open on my ps4 and my friend also on his Xbox, but we still haven't been able to play, the alternative solution didn't work, please update the game to be able to play, I am paying the PS plus subscription to play online and pay minecraft to be able to use it, if I can not do it what sense does it make, it is a scam, thank you very much I hope they fix it soon

Yeah I can't join my friends world as well i bought this game like a week ago and found out i can't join his world he is in ios and I'm in android

We have this problem sometimes, too.
When minecraft is unable to connect - it doesn't even show details on all (dedicated) servers. Also local multiplayer games are not visible.
Workaround here is: close the game completely, start it again. Then it mostly works again.
Version: 1.16.201
Windows 10 20H1

We have this problem constantly now , Unable to connect when we try and join each other’s worlds either from a invite or from selecting , my grandson son and I play , both on IPADs , on the same Wi-fi .
The problem started infrequently about 3 months ago , now happens all the time, we had be playing fine for over a year both when we were on the same Wi-fi and when he was at home. Mine crashes as well frequently. Often doesn’t show friend list , I only have my grandson and he has 3 of his friends.
Have tried all the suggested
checked settings on both Microsoft accounts , both set correctly. Restarted both IPads . Deleted my app and reinstalled (lost all my worlds 🤦🏼♀️As had assumed they were saved) . We both have plenty of data storage. Both on the same version. Version: 1.16.201

It seems to be an intermittent issue for me. If the world is on the Switch and the Switch powers off and turns back on then you have to close the program and start again.
I don't think it's a firewall issue because I don't have one and sometimes it works and sometimes not.

I'm using xbox series x and i created the world but they are saying Unable to connect but i've tried resetting the xbox series x and lunched the Minecraft but still problem but only 50% friends joined about 1/2 it's just only one player i cannot fix this because it's getting worse.
Since my Nat is open i don't know it's like acting weird

I have the same "Unable to connect to world" issue, but on two iPad minis, not cross platform.
My kids both have identical iPad minis with the latest iOS, and version 1.16.201 of MC installed.
We have issues with multiplayer worlds loading over LAN. They can log in OK, and see each other, and see the shared worlds, and send invites all fine. But when they accept the invite, or click to join the shared world under Friends, it looks like the world is loading but then says "Unable to connect to world".
This was working OK when we first installed MC, but now it's really random. We noticed it sometimes works for one iPad's worlds, but never for the other iPad's worlds. But even the iPad that shares worlds sometimes then randomly stops working again. We restart our router and the iPads/MC to see if that solves it, but it doesn't. But then later with no restart it works. Then 3 hours later stops working. Very odd.
We have set all the relevant account, user and worlds for multiplayer permissions (incl over LAN), and I have tried all the recommended fixes I can see online. Our router NAT settings are set to allow all devices, but I can't see a way to check if "open/moderate/strict" (it's a BT Smart Hub 2). And I cant find any way to check if it's an iPad NAT settings issue either.
Adding my notes here in case it helps identify a MC issue.
Update: After trying all the suggested fixes again, we decided to swap accounts on iPads to see if it was an issue with A. the kids' accounts or B. the iPad/MC app that was at fault. Even when signed in with swapped accounts, the problem continued on the same iPad that we couldn't share world's from, so that meant it wasn't a user account issue.
We made sure the MC app and iOS versions were the same on both iPads.
Then we went through all the MC settings to make sure they were the same. All fine.
Then we went through all settings (restrictions, content limits, app age limits, etc) on both iPads to check they match.
THEN in the main iPad Settings, we scrolled down to the Minecraft app, and noticed "Local Network" was ON for the iPad that shared worlds OK, but it was OFF for the problem iPad. We turned this to ON, and bingo all now working OK between both iPads.
I hope this helps other users and support team.

I had the same issue as reported by @Robert Riche, right down to using two iPad mini's and one of them not being able to connect to the other's world.
The Fix Robert suggested in his updated comment above (goto main iPad Settings, scroll down to the Minecraft app, and set "Local Network" to ON) fixed the problem. Thanks Robert (from myself and my happy children who can now play together).

OMG, thank you!! I didn't remember that I had disallowed "Local Network". This fixed my issue and I couldn't be more excited.
Mojang, please offer this as a tip when a user fails to connect to another user's world on an iOS device.

Hi , I can’t seem to find the option re local network in the main settings on the Minecraft app I only have ..Siri, notifications and background app refresh .. am I looking in the wrong place

Hi Sue, you may need to update your iOS to the latest?

Cheers all sorted

I have done what people were saying, and i still cant connect. We are on the same version and we both have local network on. We are even on the same network and the LAN option is not showing up.

@Burl Kerr
Are you on iOS 14.3? If not, maybe try updating to that.
Have you checked all your settings inside Minecraft as well? There are "multiplayer" settings under the HOME page "settings" button, AND "multiplayer" settings in each WORLD as well (to edit world settings, click on the pencil icon before clicking to enter the world). All the settings in these places need to have multiplayer and LAN enabled.
You'll also need to check the user settings in the user's xbox live account to allow multiplayer. Google for details on that, as it's explained in lots of places.
I hope this helps.

@Burl Kerr, there should be no need to go to the LAN option, just keep it on the default network mode, I think it's online, make sure the world has multiplayer enabled. If that doesn't work then unfortunately you are running into one of the other issues. The Local Network option being turned off is just one of the issues people were running into. It looks like this issue has been tagged with a beta build so it looks like Mojang is working on it and hopefully we'll have fixes soon.

Regarding @Robert R's problem with iPads not seeing each other... that was the same problem I had too.
Robert suggested goto main iPad Settings, scroll down to the Minecraft app, and set "Local Network" to ON. That did it! Thank you Robert!

Steven Bytnar are you on iOS 14? If so, this is a known issue

I've run into this problem several times now and I think I have a consistent repro. This happens whenever at least one of the machines suspends Minecraft. Whichever machine(s) suspended and then resumed will need to be rebooted; Then the players can connect.
I have an Xbox One. My friend has an Xbox One S.
What I've noticed is that if I am in Minecraft and within Minecraft I cannot see that my friend is playing Minecraft, then rebooting usually fixes that issue (hold down the Xbox button on my controller and then select the option to reboot my Xbox). Sometimes, though, my friend needs to reboot his Xbox as well and then we can connect. If he just puts his Xbox to sleep (he taps the Xbox button on his console) then we still have that problem.
I rarely play anything else, so often Minecraft is the last app I opened. When I shut down my Xbox and then start it up again Minecraft will typically start more quickly than if I reboot my Xbox.
My friend plays a lot of other games, but he also plays a lot of Minecraft. If the last game he played is not Minecraft, then he does not need to reboot. If it was the last thing he played then he needs to reboot.
I think the real issue in this situation is that the code which Minecraft uses to keep track of who is online gets into an odd state when a machine is put to sleep.

I can’t connect to my friends world on my ps4!!!! Help me!!!

I can,t play with my friends everday this problem faces me on my phone please solve this permantly

I've tried it playing multiplayer keeps showing me i was bored it might be unplayable

It's still an issue on PS4. Any information about when it gets fixed?

This is irratating me so much, my other friends are playing together and im being left ouAt as its physically impossible to join

This issue has been around for a while. I'm on Android, and I used to play with my friends all the time. But I can no longer receive invites from friends, or from people who invite me to their game without me friending them. I have checked my Xbox privacy settings, and should be able to receive invites, but I just can't for some reason. I have invited my brother to my world, and it appears he can receive my invites, but I cannot receive his. I am really disappointed about this because one of my favorite features to this game was the ability to accept invites from people I didn't know, and friend them if I chose to.
Honestly, there is a few things wrong with the mobile platform that needs to be fixed, and I wish the developers would look more into them, especially since Bedrock was originally pocket edition.

I start to play in minecraft. There are 3 tabs Worlds, Friends, Servers. On the friends tab, I find a friend and a connection. After some time, an error occurs: could not connect to the world. What's the trouble?

So is there not a solution to this problem?

It is very strange that there is no answer. Considering that the game is paid. We bought it, you cannot take advantage of all the opportunities. Bad reputation for the developer. I am trying to play over LAN. I don't need server resources. I draw a conclusion about the complete capture of us by the developer, in the plan of commercialization of the project. We have to pay for everything, even for using our local network. Great!

I have been playing with my friend around 1 month then one day I cannot longer join the world the only thing appears "locating server" im at v1.16.201 xbox, are there really no solutions?

I am seeing this issue as well with my son's xbox account (which has family settings applied). All other features appear to work. He can connect to realms. He could previously connect to his friends worlds. As of last night he can no longer connect to his friends worlds, the xbox screen hangs on "Connecting to world..." the dialog cannot be dismissed and the app has to be restarted to get out of this screen. Restarting the app and xbox has no impact on the behavior.
It is not a NAT issue - that was one of the first things I checked.
Edit: I was able to resolve my son's connection issues - not sure if they resolved on their own or it was because I loosened the third party content restrictions on his account. The friend he was trying to play with is on a ps5 vs his xbox one.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION!
I was playing Minecraft with my friends one night, like usual, and all of a sudden, I was disconnected from the world. I kept trying for hours and hours and felt sad. After, I found a video with the solution.
The solution is:
The person who can't join the game has to select their friend's world to join it. It obviously won't join, but you need to stay there. When you try to join the game, your character loads into the game and your friends can see you freely, but they can't kill you or damage you.
Next, the friend in the world must place dirt under the person who is joining. If they are floating in the air, build up to the point where the joining friend is standing on the dirt.
Finally, place Wither Rose on the dirt that the joining friend is standing on. This will kill the player joining and spawn them into the world. It works!
Here's the link of the video I found: https://youtu.be/dx4PPvn3I9g
Cheers!

Sebastian lozano solution WORKS v1.16.201 the only bad thing its that my friend had to use commands to get the wither rose but its ok.

It has been happens to me

lava and fire also work

The fix mentioned by Sebastian Lozano cannot be used in 1.16.220.50, the command /effect [affected username] instant_damage 1 10 must be used instead, requiring cheats to be enabled in the affected world.

The fix mentioned by Sebastian Lozano and the command provided by Jonathan Hanzel no longer work for the latest version on the Switch.
No damage can be done to the stuck player, and the /effect command errors out as it won't allow you to use the command on the stuck player.

My brother kept telling me that the problem was with my Microsoft account. X doubt. We've been trying to connect for about a week to no avail.

For a while now I haven’t been able to play with only one of my friends. I can join different games with different friends and she can also. We both play other games together no problem so it’s nothing to do with my Xbox. It’s weird how she can play with her brother but when she tries to connect with me it will just say unable to locate server. And it takes a LONG time before it disconnects. It will just say generating world and that’s it. It’s so frustrating because I just want to play with her!

Fix for my PS4 was a modified https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-36190?focusedCommentId=802355&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-802355
We needed to use pistons to move the character 1 chunk away. That allowed a my character to finally log in.

I've experienced this bug with three separate people; My little brother and boyfriend, each on Xbox One, and my best friend who plays on the switch. I also play on the switch. I've tried all kinds of work arounds on this page and none have worked.
For reference I can join whatever world I want fine, but they can't join mine for some reason. It's honestly greatly infuriating and idk what to do anymore

It has been almost 2 years since I first reported this and it is still not fixed. What is wrong with the Xbox that prevents connection?
PC connection has no issues... this is very frustrating and disappointing that "Play together" is basically a false claim...
Will there be any attempt to fix this? There should be no "tweaks" - it is a coding error...

Seems like many connection issues are directed to this.. would be good to remove the reference to XBox as several other redirected issues are for other devices like Android.
My problem is this:
Two Android devices running v1.16.221 and logged in to separate MS accounts.
World was originally created on device A with v1.16.???
Device B could connect multiple times over multiple days OK
One day trying to connect fails with "Disconnected due to the server being unavailable"
Logging out of device B it can connect as a generic Steve OK
Logging back in to MS account it fails to connect again with same error.
On device A they see player B's character appear where they were last standing.. then after the 1min or so timeout they disconnect.
Seems like the players data is somehow corrupt.. is there any way to refresh/reset a player in the world?
We have tried
Rebooting both devices
Uninstalling and reinstalling app on device B
Clearing cache on both devices
Logging in and out of MS accounts

so much for "play together" multible games provide cross-platform and i know they're trying their best but, come on you promised us cross-play and we got something more broken then cyberpunk

I know a free app from playstore to check celluler NAT type. The app name is STUNner. With that app help, i figured out that "symetric NAT" makes no one can join my world (not in the same LAN) and i also can't join anyone's world through xbox live service. However, when i use a VPN, it changes my NAT into "full cone". With this full cone NAT, i can join anyone's world that's not using symetric NAT but anyone that are trying to join my world will be stuck at locating server. Their names are shown on the pause menu but their character's locations are sometimes unknown and it's almost impossible to interact with them when they are actually still stuck at the locating server. Btw i get the symetric NAT type whenever i'm using my home wifi and my mom's hotspot.
Then i decided to use data celluler on my phone and my sister's phone using the 1.17.0.52 beta because my data celluler's NAT type is "port restricted cone" and my sister's data celluler is having the same NAT type because we were using the same ISP. I'm using this beta version because in this beta we can now host a multiplayer world using data celluler. And it WORKS properly. I can join my sister's world and she can join mine too without the need to use any vpn and there was no stuck at locating server.
My conclusion after doing these tests is it seems like symetrict NAT type is the culprit. I hope the devs will notice this and will be able to fix it because some ISP are using the symetrict NAT as their service including my wifi's ISP 😞
sorry if this comment is too long, messy and gramatically bad

When is this going to get fixed, I've been trying to play with my friends for months now.(android) This need to get fixed fast cause now Minecraft play together sounds like a scam.

Same issue here.
Switch/Windows 10 show other player online/world started – but connecting to it leads to 'could not connect to the world'
It looks like it is related with load on Nintendo Network (connections hardly work on weekend/same time period)
(as it takes ages to connect to microsoft account)

After I wrote comment – I tried something different ..
I changed on Windows 10 to different (or same ? – to be checked) WLAN than switch connection — and it worked almost instantely.
Maybe the issue is related to Nintendos stupid policy to play only with switch in local LANs

I can log into servers normally but I can't log into a friend's world and he can't log into my world either. This bug only started happening to me after 1.16.
One of the most fun things about Minecraft is playing in a survival world with friends, and I'm not doing it, so please fix this bug.
Edit: I play on an Android device (version 9.0)

This has also happened to me. What you could is go into creative mode for a few minutes, then it you should be able to connect servers or your friend’s world.
Edit: I play on Nintendo Switch 12.0.3

It's been happening to me for a while, but I can't say exactly how much. My friends and I want to play together, but there is always a sign that says "Unable to connect to the world." It's kind of tiring to try, please fix this problem.

When will this ever going to get fixed on Android? Do developers know about this?. I just want to know if this is going get fixed. Or am I just supposed to not pla with my friends anymore? Playing with my friends is the best feature for me. And now its gone. Please tell me if it will get fixed

This bug is caused by a lot of factors across platforms.
It could be much easier for players to troubleshoot if the game would show specific errors on the screen upon failing to connect to server rather than simply showing "Unable to connect to world".
Or,the devs could implement an advanced "debug mode" to find out more in-depth about what's happening in the client/server side when connecting.
Have a nice day btw 😃

I have the same problem but on Android, in version 1.16.0 my friends could enter my survival world without any problem but when I update to version 1.17.1, it does not allow any of my Xbox live friends to enter but they do Those who enter via LAN, I have tried to find solutions for this problem but nothing works for me.
One thing to add, the world weighs more than 400mb and was created in version 1.16.20.
My friends and I have the same version of the game (1.17.2) and my account created it in 2015

Having this same problem on iOS (1.17.2). My son and daughter have same problem, as well. There’s no indication why, but it is consistently the case. We simply can’t play together for the last few months. An error code would be helpful, but we are ready to just stop trying.
Have never had a reliable experience connecting with friends, TBH. Even got a subscription to Realms to try to have some fun w multiplayer play, but we had problems seeing each other and connecting even then. Cancelled after a couple of months.

I'm having this issue on Nintendo Switch and iOS.
The Nintendo Switch can connect to:
other players on Xbox not on the local network
My Windows 10 computer on the same network using the same world as the iPhone,
The Nintendo Switch can't connect to the iPhone on the same network.
My iPad can connect to the same world on the iPhone that the Nintendo Switch can't connect to.
The same iPhone can connect to a world on the Switch, but the Switch can't connect to a world on the iPhone.
The switch used to connect to the same iPhone in 1.16.20, but it won't connect now.
Steps that I've tried are:
removing all VPN software from the iPhone
logging out and back into the Microsoft accounts on the Switch and iPhone.
uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft on the iPhone using the iCloud method to backup the worlds
restarting the Nintendo Switch and trying again from scratch

Same problem here. Cannot find any reliable help and haven’t had any success joining at all. My girlfriend and i have tried everything we have seen on internet. A little mad that we cant use the only feature we paid to get the game for and it gas been this way for months

I can‘t play in Xbox with these consoles:
Windows 10
iOS

This seems to be a big issue for months on end now. Someone screwed up the update obviously!!!!
Come on tech support get it fixed!! I'd love to play with some friends on maps!

I will say to you my workaround:
Who haves the world | Consoles that can join | Consoles that tested join to the world, but unsuccessfully. (can't join to the world) |
---|---|---|
Windows 10 | Xbox One S, Windows 10 | Xbox One X |
Xbox One S | Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Windows 10 |
|
Xbox One X | Android, Xbox One S, Xbox One X | Windows 10 |
iOS | - | Xbox One X |
Android | Xbox One X, Windows 10, Android |
|
* Not tested everything
Xbox One X is my console
I will update it at late 2021 (Windows 11)

I think it has something to do with NAT types. Go to the pc settings -> gaming -> box networks and check what your NAT type is. If you're facing this issue, your NAT type will most likely be Strict or Closed.
I m facing this issue too but I haven't figured out how to change my NAT to open yet.

@Junaid Padwekar, this won't help for everyone. I am using Xbox One X.

@Branko Šaškovič Pretty sure NAT type is related to your internet connection and not device you use, and consoles have NAT types too, for xbox its same as PC with NAT types open, moderate, strict and closed, for Play station it would be Type 1, 2, 3 and closed. I have tried it out before and i was able to play using another connections(Mobile data and someone else's wifi) because my wifi has strict NAT type which im working on changing to open.

I have found that in the latest version, an android device can connect to a world hosted on an IOS device, but IOS cannot join android hosted worlds.

I have an IOS device and nobody can join in my worlds, what can i do?

We just had our first successful connection in a while. We recently restarted the router for a different networking issue, and the Switch connected to my iPhone sometime afterwards. I'm not entirely confident that the router restart is what made it work, but here are all of the things that I've tried over the past month:
Logging out and back into Nintendo Switch Online (didn't work right after)
Logging out and back into the Microsoft account on the Switch (didn't work right after)
Logging out and back into the Microsoft account on the iPhone (didn't work right after)
Restarting the Switch and iPhone (didn't work)
Connecting the Switch to different worlds on the same iPhone (didn't work)
Connecting the Switch to the same world on Windows 10 after transferring the world using the iCloud method (did work)
Connecting the iPad to the same iPhone using the same world (did work before the restart)
Connecting the Switch to the same world on iPhone with the Warp VPN enabled on iPhone (Got a different error message than before)
Trying the splash potion of harming trick to see if that fixed the issue (didn't work)
Have the player log in, and if they get in far enough to load in their character visually, go to where they are and kill them using splash potions of harming. This is supposed to force them to move and stop being glitched, but in this case, they disappeared entirely. When they tried logging in again, they just had the dying poof animation. They didn't even drop their inventory. Luckily we tried this on a world backup instead of the original.
Restarting the router (didn't try again immediately afterwards, so I don't know if this is 100% the solution, but this is probably what solved the issue)
Trying to connect the Switch to the same world on iPhone without the VPN (didn't work until recently)
Our specific router is a TP-Link X60 with 3 satellite mesh points. Restarting the router fixed a couple other issues with Android phones connecting to the network, so there may have been bigger issues overall with the network.

I’ve checked my nat type and I have the correct one but I joining the worlds still does not work. How has it been 10 plus months and this still isn’t fixed?

I was having this issue on PS4, restarting didn't work. I have played on the world before, but it wouldn't let me join my friend. I decided to just randomly change my skin to default and it let me join. Weirdly, I played on that world and I play in my own world, which people join, using my custom skin.
But seriously though, it has been a few years. Let's get such a critical issue out of the way?

If Mojang reads this, I would like to tell them that I have great connection including my NAT set to Open on Xbox and the internet is not the main cause of the issue, it's their game that automatically prevents me to join my brother's world just by displaying a "Unable to connect to world" message even though we both are in the up-to-date version (v1.17.11 Hotfix), we both have Xbox Live Gold, we have our Xbox profiles added, and everything. Why can't they just yet see? _

Affects 1.17.30.25

Does anyone have a fix for this? We are on iPad IOS15. Minecraft v1.17.11. Have played in friends wold before but now cannot access it, but other friends can. We have closed open apps and restarted, rebooted, logged out and back in again, opened another world opened friends ad still stays "Unable to Connect to World". Its my daughters game so I know v little about it but have tried everything I can find about fixes. Any help appreciated!
thanks

As of today, the issue still isn’t fixed. I’ve updated my phone to the latest iOS, updated Minecraft to the latest updated which was added a few hours ago. Still isn’t working. Is there any way to fix this at all?

I am trying to connect from my iOS to a world on Android and I can't. This is so frustrating. How long will it take for you guys to fix this? I have been having this problem since I started playing last year and I spend 1 hour just trying to connect to a world. And to think that MC is a paid game, this isn't a bug you can expect from a paid game. NONE of your workarounds work and NONE of it applies to the my problem.

This issue is back on 1.17.40. I tried connecting the Nintendo Switch to Windows 10, Nintendo Switch to iPad and then iPhone, an iPad to an iPhone, and finally an iPad to Windows 10. The iPad to Windows 10 did work, but it is certainly a pain to transfer worlds back and forth all the time. I also tried restarting the modem as before, but it didn’t help this time. I also tried fully restarting the iPhone and Nintendo Switch to see if that fixed the issue.
I later tried disconnecting the iPhone from the WiFi network to use LTE instead, and that seems to have done the trick for getting the Nintendo Switch to connect to the iPhone. With all of the comments about NAT’s and port-forwarding, I wonder if port forwarding to different devices on the same network may be causing the issues.

I can connect my iPhone to my iPads game, but a friend can’t connect their game to my iPad. The connection between my phone and iPad is through the Xbox live.

I posted my own ticket (MCPE-147640) regarding a similar problem and it was marked as a Duplicate of this, but the workaround listed here would not correlate to my issue. The problem persists even when I take my Nintendo Switch or when my friend takes his iPad to each others' houses and multiple other places where we take our devices, even at locations where they worked before.

I found the issue I was having on IOS not being to join friend servers. On IOS Settings go to Minecraft permissions and make sure "local network" is on. I was able to join friends servers now. I don't know if the update on IOS automatically changed that setting to off but once turned on it worked. Hope that helps some users here!

I got marked as duplicate im having similar issues but v1.17.41.
I am unable to join friends in minecraft. I can join LAN network worlds and public servers like “The Hive”. Yet cannot join friends worlds including my own children (so yes i have checked they have multiplayer enabled). Im using IOS minecraft, updated and reinstalled minecraft. Running the latest IOS. I have logged out and back in… i have made sure my cellular connection is on. I have reset my device. I have removed friends and re added them. “Im still unable to connect to world. I have also tried using alternate Microsoft accounts on iphone and it still wont work…

So yes, I have 64 bit android phone and my friend has 32 bit windows lappy. It won't work. I tried android 32 bit from https://www.android-x86.org/ installed in my laptop. It worked. (with the same friend from the internet)
NOTE: I can join friends with 64 bit windows, 64 bit android, and 64 bit ios. I USE 64 bit for my life
please add this text at the end of your bug report for devs to expirament with
'Discovered by Patrick Uy: 64 bit devices couldn't join 32 bit players'
'Temporary Fix: Use 32 bit systems to join 32 bit friends'
'Expected results: 32 bit Friends could be joinable by 64 bit friends'
##ADDED NOTES##
1. My friend has other 32 bit friends joined already.
2. My friend admitted that BDS (bedrock dedicted server) is not compatible with his/her computer because of architecture.
From @unknown: I have reopened MCPE-150431 and added this information to that report. (In the future, please avoid excessive color, etc in text. Simply use normal text except for headings.)

issue seems to become worse after 1.18.10. friend who never had this issue now had this issue
more descriptive error messages would be so much helpful, to find out if it is issue between hoster and MS servers, joiner and MS servers, hoster to joiner or joiner to hoster
but I guess that is feedback more than bug report

Yes the issue started with me on playstation on 1.18 i think after 1.18.10

A simple solution would be to provide error descriptions about what is causing us to "unable to connect to world", rather than playing whacka mole to find what the issue is. this bug report is almost 4 years old now and causes so much frustration.
i understand that network communication between ios, android, windows 10, xbox one, ps4, nintendo and kindle is not easy. it is beyond the scope of my tiny brain's understanding
but bedrock is very restrictive and there are no logs for us to try to fix the issue ourselves like for java edition.

Pressing the fix button fixed it for me on windows, if someone else would like to confirm....

I've found a workaround for this issue for Xbox One, One S & X, Series X|S.
If you are having this problem, try the following steps. If it is your friend with this problem, have them follow these steps.
The steps I did to fix this:
Open your Xbox Home menu.
Go to Profile & System.
Go to Settings, General, Network settings.
Click Advanced settings, Alternate port selection.
Click Manual.
Look at the number of your current selected port, click it and select a port with a higher displayed value then your current port.
Click continue.
Make sure the NAT type option shows Open. If not, select another port.
Restart your console once you see NAT type: Open.
Login to your Xbox account and load up Minecraft.
Try joining a friend. (or load up a world and try having a friend join you if they are the one having the problem)
If done correctly, you, or your friend, should be able to join the world.

I have been having a problem with my friend who plays on xbox, and me, who plays on windows 11, on and off he will be able to join me but then not be able to, i have the same problem.

I have a potential workaround that tends to work
Join the world like you normally do
Wait until the person who is trying to join gets the unable to connect to world screen.
Have owner of the owner of the world invite the player trying to join while they are still on the unable to connect to world screen.
Have the person trying to join accept the invite
I have no idea why this works but it tends to let you in.
(Edit) This has only been tested on ios mobile.

I've experienced similar issues when trying to play with my friend. I use an Android phone and my friend uses an XBox. I have noticed that, when I am using mobile data, she can't join my worlds and I have trouble joining hers. If I connect to Wi-Fi, though, then it's fine. Hope that helps some of you.

There appears to be an increase in the number of affected users by this bug as of the 5th of this month. I'm an active member of the official Discord server, and will continue to refer people with issues in the bugs & support channels, to this bug report.
Edit: It appears that for PC users, it may be a Windows Update that is affecting this issue.
On this date, many players that had been previously able to connect to their friends, are no longer able to connect to their friend's worlds.

I have recently run into this problem on my local LAN crossplay with my kids between my PC, a Nintendo Switch, and Android tablet. Details below:
My kids and I play Minecraft together over LAN; I on my PC, my son on Nintendo Switch (with an NSOnline account), and my daughter on Android. We have been playing for weeks with no issues and our game world is hosted on my PC. Our last successful session was Monday, January 16 2023.
We attempted to play again on Saturday, Jan 21 and the Nintendo Switch refused to connect to the world hosted via the PC (all Bedrock edition). The Android client connected with no issues. There have been no configuration changes to the network or devices in the intermittent period other than standard Windows 10 updates delivered via Windows Update. The Switch detects the world online on my account, and my son tries to join (either via friends menu OR by invite; we have tried both; sometimes the invite does not display on the Switch). After a few minutes of displaying "Connecting to multiplayer game", the Nintendo Switch client reports "Connection Timed Out. Unable to connect to world." We have tried connecting over and over and it refuses to connect. The android device connects successfully every time.
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps to resolve.
1. Restarted the PC and the Nintendo Switch.
2. Restarted the router and modem in the home.
3. Signed out and back in to the Microsoft accounts on each device
4. Per a web forum, tried cancelling the connection request on the Switch immediately and reactivating it. No change.
5. Tried sending a join invitation from the PC. The join does not work either, and sometimes the invite never even appears on the Switch.
6. Checked Windows firewall/defender settings. Minecraft is set to pass through (note; no other antivirus installed).
7. Tried creating a new world on the PC; again, the Android device can connect and the Switch cannot.
8. Tried hosting both the original world and a new world from my laptop; no change.
9. Tried connecting the laptop and the Switch both to a wifi hotspot on my phone to completely eliminate the network gear and the Switch will still not connect to the PC-hosted world.
10. Cleared Switch cache.
We also tested other options:
-A world hosted from the Switch is joinable both from PC and Android
-A world hosted from the Android tablet is joinable both from the PC and Switch.
At this point, something is impeding the Switch specifically from a connection with the PC, and I have tried every possible solution I can think of to pass through. And again, this problem is new and developed only in the last week; we have successfully played together on a world hosted from the PC many times before

For some reason when iOS is connecting to iOS it works best when you connect to the world when the host is on generating world. This is from my testing

i was playing mc with my sister. me on pc her on ipad. in the ipad settings go to minecraft and make sure local network is on. after turning that on its been working flawlessly.

I've cannot connect to online multiplayer via the Nintendo Switch with my account. I was able play and connect just fine to for a few days when I first purchased the game (May 16, 2024) but after some lag and server issues (online world play and marketplace not working) and backing up save data to the cloud from another user account on my switch, I haven't been able to connect again since then.
I cannot join any world from my friends list nor can anyone join mine. Both through the Switch friends list nor the invite method via cross world play. Only local gameplay works fine.
Notes:
Nintendo switch hardware is up to date
Minecraft game is up to date (v1.20.81)
My Microsoft account is linked and settings have been set to "allow friends" etc
I've un installed & re installed Minecraft AND deleted both console and cloud save data to start fresh
I have an active Nintendo Online Membership
Friends are able to see me hop online on the Nintendo Switch and I am able to play other Nintendo games online just fine
Internet service is working just fine, I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps that both Nintendo AND Microsoft have recommended
Another family member in the same household has NO issues connecting online, everything works perfectly fine
I receive an error message immediately once I try to connect to online multiplayer only in Minecraft which makes me believe it's an account or programming/code issue with online play. I've tried the workarounds suggested in this post but the issue has not been resolved the issue thus far.

The problem is that I cannot connect from both the PS4 to the iPhone and the iPhone to the PS4. But if I play from an Android, I can easily connect to the world on an iPhone

This is only happened after the 1.21 update it’s nothing to do with Wi-Fi it’s something in the server that is restricting access

Happens to my friend on IOS.
Has happened to me on the free Farm Life map from the Marketplace on Nintendo Switch, but I'm not sure if it's to do with this bug, or just an error/crash.
Been an issue for my friend on IOS since 1.20.32 (first time we ever played on Multiplayer)
Can very occasionally happen on Realms on IOS.

same Problem whey i try to join from switch to Switch, over switch online and microsoft 😞 solution didnt help.

In the bug I reported, MCPE-185336, an issue I occasionally had on Switch and iOS, friends wouldn't show up as online despite the fact that they were and in a world. 😞 I have also been able to join world from servers in the past, which apparently you're not supposed to do...? I don't really know but I both have and have not. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

new update and i hope so lot but nothing comes 😞

I'm only able to join realms if I disable my wifi. I don't know why it doesn’t let me join realms using wifi if my wifi is performing fine. This issue has been happening to me for months, and there doesn’t seem to be a solution that would make my issue go away.

Been having the same issue with nintendo to nintendo switch joining multiplayer worlds for over 2 weeks with my gf, we played this world before.
its not a internet issue because we can play minecraft servers just fine, its not. A network issue because we troubleshooted it multiple times, we have nintendo online till next year, we logged out, unistalled, restarted tried playing different worlds.
im kinda giving up hope because everywhere i go i see people on switch having the same issue and it never being resolved and or fixed. May just give up ngl
