Can no longer invite/see cross-platform user when in a specific world in Switch

My son and I play together with him using his Nintendo Switch and myself using the Windows 10 PC bedrock app. We have both Microsoft accounts and Nintendo switch online memberships and he successfully logs in into his Hotmail account from the switch. If he creates a new world on the switch, he can invite me without issues. So it seems that there is no issue with the general capability of playing cross-platform.

However, on his Switch there is a creative world which we built together over several months.

Since two/three weeks (I am not exactly sure), when he comes in that world, I cannot see him as a "friend" and he cannot see me - so he cannot invite me. For a while, he didn't seem to be able to invite me, but I was able to see him as a "friend" and thus join him. Now even that doesn't work anymore.

The issue is specifically for that world. New worlds allow invites and me joining.

I have tried changing a bit of settings in that World, including signing off the account on the switch and signing in again, and clearing up data, but nothing seem to make a difference.

It seems as some data is corrupted in that world. Is that possible?

Can u advise on how to restore his capability of inviting me to that world?

Of course I can provide any specific diagnostic data you may need.

Hei!

Thanks for your  response.

Both Minecrafts are the newest version - my son's is on Nintendo  Switch 1.18.2, I am using Windows Bedrock 1.18.2. The Switch updates automatically and in order to play together I've kept my Bedrock always synced to the same version. Don't remember the version when the problem first occurred, but we've kept the games updated all the time.

I have redownloaded the software on the Switch and re-purchased the Nintendo Online access (which had expired), and he could sign in with Microsoft without problems, but the original world is still inaccessible.

I now notice that also a second world on his Switch, which was working fine til last week, is no longer accessible by me. It used to be that once he entered the world I could join him (even if he doesn't appear in my Friends list, see below) but now when he goes in, he cannot invite me (because I dont appear as a friend) nor I can see and join him (since he does not appear as a friend for me). When in Minecraft I go into the Settings, on the right side there's only his tag, not the usual "invite friends" button. As if he was offline.

If I go to the XBox application on my PC, he's online as a friend, with "Minecraft for Nintendo Switch" as a subtitle.  So obviously the Microsoft account is working at least to some degree.

Could it be that something happens to his account when the Nintendo Online subscription expires? This is the only difference between last week and this week (his subscription had expired and I went and renewed it) and perhaps was the same when the original world became inaccessible (his subscription had expired and I had purchased a new one... even if I am not sure of it).

It almost seem like as if when the Nintendo Online subscription expires, the world are made only local (even if the multiplayer settings are clearly ok)  and the friends relationships get messed up, or the account data in Minecraft.

Some additional info which may help shed light on the problem: when we created the accounts originally, I could see his account online and he could see mine. Now I cannot. Specifically:

  • in the "Friends" menu, I cannot see my son's Switch/Microsoft account, nor he can see me as a cross-platform friend even when we are both online (as above) and he is successfully signed into his Microsoft account.

  • If I go into either malfunctioning worlds, when opening the control buttons ("Resume Game"/"Settings/etc..) I can no longer see the "Invite to Game" button that used to be there. It's like if the world has become only local to the Switch.

  • If I am in his Switch and in Minecraft I search for my own account using "Add Friend", the game finds me as a friend already (the only button is "Remove Friend") and online  - it says "Currently playing Minecraft". But when I exit the search result, the friends list is empty (Friends: 0).

  • Similarly, if I try to add his account as a friend in my Windows Minecraft, I find his account alright and he's already a friend, online (Minecraft says "Currently playing Minecraft for Nintendo Switch") but when I exit the result dialog, he does not appear in my Friends list.

  • As above, if I open the Xbox application on my pc I can see him online no problem.

  • I now created a third world in his Switch, just for testing. If I go into this world, when opening the control buttons I can see an "Invite to Game" button. When pressing it, Minecraft tells "You haven't added anyone to your friend's list!" (I was expecting to find my own account). If I try to "Find Cross-Platform Friends", I find myself alright.. but already as a friend.

This is really puzzling: from the Switch when searching for my own (Windows) account as a Friend, I find it as already added.. but when I exit the "Find friend" dialog,  my account doesn't appear in the Friends list.

I am happy to give you our  accounts handles if it helps debugging, so long there's a way to make the message private.

Thank you.
