I'm not able to connect to my friends world. Before the update I had no problem.
I'm using Win10, my friend is using xBox one... same version: v1.8.0
the only message I get is "Unable to connect to world"
UPDATE
my sister logged in and tried to get into my friends world and it worked! After this I tried to and was finally able to get into my friends world on xBox. No idea what the problem was... I didn't changed anything.

I came here to log the same bug.
My friend and I both have Nintendo Switches running v1.8.0.
When inviting a friend to my world, they get an "unable to connect to world" error message. I also get this error when accepting their invitation to join their world. The same error message is shown if I manually click "join" on my friend rather than use an invitation.
We have both tried restarting our switches as we read that this may fix it but sadly it did not.
We can both join the public servers but of course, we are not together when we do this.

I'm having this exact issue, also doing windows --> xbox crossplay. Was trying to host on PC, have not tried hosting on Xbox yet. Issue is 100% reliable, we tried connecting at least a dozen times, checked NAT settings etc. We are on the same network. I found this thread (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/games_windows_10/minecraft-windows-10-edition-unable-to-connect-to/a6d1103a-885a-45f7-a292-7ed5e47f5379) where ColoradoMiner says he fixed the problem by using a VPN, that may indicate what the problem is

Just tried hosting on Xbox and joining from Windows instead, got the same vague message.

I tried connecting to a friend's world. He was using a Switch and I tried both Windows 10 and Android versions and received the same message. We checked NAT settings, completely disabled firewalls, tried different ISPs...still no luck. This looks more and more like an application or a back end server issue. Everyone having this issue, please vote so we can get it fixed. Thanks!

Same issue. I am running windows 10 version 1.12.1. My friend is running PE on iPad same version. I cannot connect to any of her worlds and she cannot connect to any of mine. "Unable to connect to world" error message. This is new since yesterday.

Same thing here, me and my friend have been playing on the same world for over a year and now suddenly we can’t do anything together, this is so infuriating. Literally nothing has changed, it only started recently.

I’m having the exact same issue. My sister and I have the same type of iPad and same version of Minecraft yet whenever I try to join her world or she tries to join mine we get the same ‘unable to connect to world’ error message. 😞 🙁

the only thing i can do to fix this is uninstall and reinstall minecraft. it seems to start whenever i get "disconnected from server"
