Campfire not cooking food

Saw today that you are supposed to be able to place items on a campfire and it will cook them, which I thought was pretty cool. Decided to try it right away, but even though the raw beef has been there for a long time, it has never cooked. Its a normal campfire, lit, and I placed four raw beef on it.

Is there a lot of lag in your world? Cooking usually takes 30 seconds.

There is 0 lag. I also tried it in a brand new creative world, and nothing.

I am not able to reproduce this problem. Have you changed any of the default world settings?

No, it is fully survival with achievements enabled. I also attempted it in a new flat world and it would not work.

Could you attach a copy (export) of a world where this occurs?

I found out the issue myself. If fire spread is off, food wont cook on a campfire.
