Teleporting to the nether with parrot prevents return trip

I play on Android and PS4 on Realms. The following issue was persistent for both sistema.

After teleporting to the nether through a new portal in the jungle, I found I was unable to return through the portal (the animation wouldn't even start). I was only able to return to the overworld by teleporting to a player on the server. After attempting to reposition the portal to create a better link, the problem persisted. In addition, after visiting our main portal that has been working for months, I was also unable to come back through the portal from the nether. I finally realized that the only other difference was that I had picked up a parrot in the jungle and once I killed it, I was finally able to teleport back to the overworld through the portal.
