Just confirmed is also true on xbox one S, version 1.2.6.2 beta

This is because of the rule that mobs riding other mobs cannot pass through nether portals.

Still an issue - Minecraft Win10 edition affected. seems to cause a server error on realms also.
Steps to reproduce
have a parrot on shoulder
attempt to enter nether portal - it fails
parrot goes through portal - after player jumping
player to enter portal - without parrot
server crash upon loading nether.
Had to restore a backup so this is a game braking bug! please provide an update on the issue. as it seems to be long standing. I will get a recording of the issue to update the ticket
EDIT:
Crash is only happening on realms. but the main issue of not being able to go through portal with a parrot on shoulder is applicable on both local & realms

Same here kinda need it, I had to kill my parrot

Still occurs in 1.14.30

This was first time finding a jungle biome and was pretty exited to finally get a parrot. However I did not know how they worked ( since I never had one before ) and had not idea how to get him of my shoulder when I was in the nether trying to travel back to my base. He ended up getting lit on fire and died. I could do nothing but watch him burn. Had it not been for this bug I would have just traveled safely through my portal with my parrot. 0/10 would not recommend.

My keep crashing when I trying going to my world

Still an issue. If you can get the parrot to dismount, you would be able to go through the portal, but you'd have to push the parrot through the portal when it's sitting, before you enter it yourself, if you don't want to leave it behind.
Tested on a bedrock dedicated server.

When you try to go through, there is no wavy portal animation and it is as if you are just standing on a normal block.

Almost THREE YEARS and this is still a problem in 1.16.1
...just jump from at least two blocks to dismout the parrot and go into the portal 😉

I also have this issue on Nintendo Switch v. 1.16.1.
Somehow, I entered the Nether with the parrot on my shoulder (I did not realize there was a parrot on me) and could not return to the Overworld. I was able to return to the Overworld WITH THE PARROT in the Switch version by doing the following:
With the parrot, stand inside the portal such that it would normally teleport the player (see attached image).
[media]Save and quit the game entirely (not just back to the world-choosing screen).
Reopen the game.
Load world in which the player was standing in the portal.
Instead of the Nether dimension loading, the game goes directly into the teleporting animation (the wavy purple stuff) and successfully teleports the player to the Overworld.
Alternatively, I was also able to return to the Overworld with the parrot by doing the following:
Jump in the Nether from 3 blocks high to the floor (parrot dismounts)
Walk into the portal
Wait for teleportation
Arrive in the Overworld with the parrot back on the player's shoulder.

I had the same problem in that I couldn't use the portal and if I did make it through the portal the realm would crash. Members got upset when the realm crashes because they would loose items. I now make the parrot sit on the ground and push him through the portal first. When I get through to the other side he is automatically sitting on my shoulder.

Affects 1.16.100.55 Beta.

Affects 1.16.200.56 Beta.

On PS4 Isnt possible use nether portal with parrot on shoulder. Parrot on "follow" not on a shoulder crashes game on portal use.

This doesn’t just affect nether portals, it also affects the end portal. You will stand on top of it then. The end portal seems to have a collision box.

I’m having this issue on iPad Mini iOS 14.4 Minecraft Edition 1.16.210. In my case if I try to go through a portal with a parrot on my shoulder the portal won’t transport me. The portal appears to work and if I can get the parrot off my shoulder I can go through normally. The program does not crash under this condition.

I've done a bit of testing on this on a realm. I can consistently crash a realm causing it to revert to the previous save with this method. This can be exploited by people wanting to revert progress / lost items, etc. I have a feeling this can be exploited to dupe items as well as it seems sometimes the save that is loaded is slightly different than what had occurred, like player position, or for example if an entity is killed, but when "going back in time", other things are reset but the entity is still missing, etc. One player in the realm claims to have duped a bow this way, but not everyone agrees it was a dupe.
We've not done extensive testing on this additional finding, but it seems that the parrot-donned player may revert to a default alex/steve skin and when going through portals without the parrot, switch back and forth between alex and steve. (basically, surgeon general warning: going back in time may cause you to swap genders)
Process:
1. get a parrot on your shoulder
2. step into a nether portal (you won't be able to go through)
3. ask an admin to tp you to the other dimension
4. interact (or have someone else interact) with a nether portal (the realm usually crashes after one interaction, but from our testing, it never needed more than 3)
I wasn't going to add this stuff to the bug report since it seems admin interaction is required to crash the server, but I've just found that if you are in a portal while the parrot is pathing to you in order to land on your shoulder, it will crash the realm as well. No admin interaction required.

affects 1.17.10

Entities riding other entities can't go through portals. Nothing in boats/carts can, players riding horses cant, nothing riding something else can go through a portal. Which explains why you can't while a parrot is on your shoulder.

Same on iOS

On version 1.17.10

Present on 1.17.40.21 Android.
There are additional problems resulting from parrots passing through nether portals, but I report issue-by-issue so as not to clog threads with unrelated matter.

Affects 1.18.31

It's not just parrots that prevent portal travelling. Any mob riding something else prevents any of those two entities from entering end or nether portals.
Other examples include:
Player on a minecart
Villager in a boat
Evoker riding a ravager
Baby strider riding a strider
You can make a parrot dismount by falling two blocks or submerging yourself in water, and you can take a mob off a ride with fishing rods or water

Not working as well in Bedrock 1.19.73

1.21.2 with Xbox STILL NOT FIXED💀
