I also made a report similar to this because they also prevent fall damage . However it was only fixed in beta versions

You can swim to dismount the parrot :/

Please reopen. Still occurs in 1.13.1. A workaround is to build up next to where you want the bird to land, then fall down.

Still occurs 1.14.30 (Even when using Elytra and flying, the Parrot does not dismount.

This happens, because you need to fall 2 blocks instead of only 1 to make them dismount, this means that, like @unknown already mentioned, you can build up by one block and then jump of it and the parrot will dismount.

It would be annoying if my parrot left my shoulder every time I dropped down by 1 block. For example, when descending a hill or using a carpet-on-fence to leave an animal pen. So I think this may be working as intended.
I did some testing and looking with an NBT viewer, and parrots leave your shoulder when you drop 1.75 blocks (from an enchanment table on top of a block), but not when you drop 1.5625 blocks (from a stonecutter on top of a block).

@unknown On java they do dismount when falling down 1 block, which why it is probably not intended.
