End portal wrong-warp?

I entered the end portal in my survival world's stronghold to search for End City Ships, and instead of placing me on the obsidian platform (which I later verified had not been broken/destroyed), dropped me into the void, causing me to lose everything I had on me including fully enchanted Netherite armor and tools, as well as a pair of Elytra. There was no feasible way I could have predicted/prevented this from happening, and it's not like I can just switch into Creative mode and get all my stuff back, because Bedrock's absolutely asinine achievement system permanently and irreversibly locks the world out of receiving achievements. I lost tens of hours of work that I can't get back because of a random glitch I couldn't do anything to escape.
