Is this still an issue in the latest version? If so, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter).

I think the format is /execute @s ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~-1 ~ wool (data number) say found
Also, if it's in a command block, don't use @s, otherwise the command block will not properly run the command as you.
