Nether Portal bringing me somewhere far away from my linked up portal and not creating a new portal at the creation

My nether portal was linked up with one in my nether base and once I dropped an item into the portal when I exited the nether it brought me somewhere about 200 blocks away from my nether portal and didn't create a new one there, this constantly happens and is very annoying. I tried breaking the portal and relighting them but it still doesn't work. I hope this bug gets fixed. Thank you.
