The beehive is a rotatable block and the front (South) face of the block will face the player when the block is placed. It does not appear that the North, East and West faces appear correctly in relation to the front face of the block, though the top texture does rotate correctly.
I gave custom textures to the beehive. The south and north face have the same pattern, and the east and west faces have the same pattern. The texture makes it look like the wood is joined. The side textures of the beehive have the wood joins/ends in the opposite positions of the front face (see right.png).
In wrong.png the beehive is facing east. The South texture is displayed on the East face and the North texture is incorrectly displayed on the North face (next face to the front of the front texture). The East texture is the one that should be displayed for the North face becasue the block has been rotated.
