Items not dropping on death

I was attacked by 2 zombies and died in a corner and respawned fairly close, and returned after a few seconds to where I had died. I saw where I had died my armour, but none of the items I had in my hand. I looked in the surrounding area and saw nothing. It had been to quick for it to have despawned. Mojang pls fix

p.s. I was playing on realms

Edit: I could not actually see the items on the floor, only my armour.
