Custom Characters in split screen play keep changing to a strange skin

Hello! This is sort of an odd bug but it only recently started happening and I haven't found anyone else having this issue.

When my husband and I play Minecraft on the Switch, we usually play it split screen on the same system and TV. We've both created custom character skins using the character creator that's built in with Minecraft. Usually when we start up our world to play together we can see each other's skins just fine, but once we play for awhile (sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes more) our skins disappear and turn into this odd skin that isn't Steve or Alex. On our own sides of the TV we can still see our own skins, but he sees my skin as this strange default man on his side of the TV and vice versa. The only way we've been able to make them switch back is by reloading the world, but then it just happens again after awhile of playing.

I have not witnessed the skins changing, it's always when we aren't looking at one another and then the next time we look at one another we've changed into this strange man. When we go into the pause menu to look at our profiles they are both still the custom skins that we created and when we view our characters in third person mode they look correct on our given sides of the screen, just not to one another. The system remained connected to the internet the entire time as far as I'm aware, as at first I thought it might be an issue with the Microsoft accounts disconnecting, but the Switch was still connected to the internet the entire time so I don't think that's the issue. We also tried unchecking the setting under profile for allowing only verified skins, and no matter if we had that on or off it still happened.

This isn't a horrible issue but it's really annoying, especially given that we bought some cool items for our characters with minecoins and now we have to keep reloading our game just to see one another's skins properly. I've attached an image of our screens with the skin that we've been changing into. Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated!

This has been happening to my girlfriend and I on Bedrock on the Xbox One. After a while our characters will lose limbs and glitch out.
