On some servers such as LBSG the render distance is dramatically decreased regardless of the settings on MCPE itself.
Note: applies to all android and iOS devices I have tested it on and does not occur on lan multiplayer worlds.
Device used: iPad mini 4, LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note 3
