Are your sounds enabled?

Please make sure Sound Volume and Music options are on. Go to Volume Mixer on your PC and make sure Minecraft is
a) not muted
b) played by correct device you use to play sounds (it is always possible that the output goes to another device you once used - like headphones)

If everything there is in order - provide more info on when your sounds stopped. Were you able to hear sounds before?

Everything is in order. The sound isn't working. It never worked. Everything plays just fine. Steam, youtube, bluray, all games. No issues. Minecraft never had sound. I had beta 13 installed it maybe 2 weeks ago. No sound. waited for 14 still no sound.

Oh and it says above to check the volume mixer. Minecraft doesn't show up in there. Do I need to have the media package or something? I have the N edition of windows.

Ok I installed the media package for windows and it works. So that is the work around for the no sound issue with windows N or KN.

I think that is a bug should be in known issues. You shouldn't need the media pack to play sound in a game.

It is a known issue for Windows 10 - not Minecraft since it is not game issue, but most likely driver issue.
Short search for "Windows 10 no sound" gives plenty of explanation.

As there is no mention of the media pack in the system requirements for the game I would consider this at the very least an oversight. I've been running the Windows 10 N version for months now with no issues with other applications or games (or the Java version of Minecraft for that matter). Since there's nothing wrong with the system it's very hard to diagnose; I was lucky that I came across this defect when I was looking for a solution because it isn't mentioned anywhere else that Media Player is needed.
