When you move the curser to select item, it will auto move on it's own. It will move to the complete side of the screen and you cant get control of it it. I have no issues with my controller on any other game, except minecraft. It happened a few updates ago, and I tried a different controller and same problem. But it will move off the screen and have to close everything and try again.
