Campfires emit particles so you can see them from a distance, but this mechanic is completely pointless on android, at a render distance of 16 chunks, the fire stopped emitting particles when 2 or more chunks away. When you are next to the fire there is no reason to have a smoke single and would just affect performance. It would be great if we could change the particle render distance or at least extend it to the same limit that flowers are removed from. Preferably, it would be good if we could see the fires at the very edge of the render distance so it could be used to mark important areas.
