Upon using a piston to displace a water melon or pumpkin, the item is to fall into the hopper and filter down into the chest below that is properly attached. But what is happening is the item is resting on top of the hopper(s) and not following through entering the hopper and then entering the chest. This has been tested many times.

On the screenshots I see that the items are not placed on hoppers, they just levitate on the dirt blocks close to pistons, where they would grow out of the stem. Do the items pass through the hoppers when you throw them yourself?
