A large number of pistons will cause lag

If too many pistons are placed in the game, it will cause lag. This makes it impossible for me to build a large automatic sugarcane farm because I have to harvest sugarcane with pistons

Can you elaborate? What do you mean by jamming?

lag

When too many pistons enter your field of view, the frame rate decreases significantly

Considering how long the bug has not been updated, is this still an issue in 1.19.51?
If yes, could you please attach a video showing it?

Reopened and confirmed for 1.20.
Pistons have the same affect on client-side performance and FPS and as chests (MCPE-137537), signs and banners, and for the same reason: their rendering depends on tile entity data. Presumably the client is requesting tile entity data from the server on every tick, or re-computing the visuals on every tick or frame.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a 25x25x25 cube of stone or dirt.

  2. About 20 blocks away create a 25x25x25 cube of pistons.

  3. Stand between them and face the stone/dirt.

  4. Turn and face the pistons.

Expected result

Same FPS and CPU/GPU load when facing either the stone or the pistons.

Observed result
Massive FPS drop and CPU usage increase when facing the pistons.
