After i get my book & quill to the lectern. I was shocked that the book was dissappear

My son just let me know today that this is happening to him on our realm server - he is on Nintendo Switch.
Steps to reproduce:
1. write in a book and quill (unsigned)
2. Place it on a lectern
3. If you want to edit the book - you remove the book
Observed results:
The book simply vanishes from existence. All his work he puts into the book is gone. He is 9 and working on writing skills so it's super important to him. He's repeated it about 5 times and it keeps happening to him. I had him show me exactly what's happening and this bug is still an issue.
Expected results: You should be able to remove the unsigned book without it disappearing, edit the text and then replace it.
I'm having the same issue playing on Bedrock. My lectern is in the Nether, not sure if that makes a difference. Exact same behavior as Alicia reported.
