Game crashes after changing resource texture packs

If you change out an existing resource pack with a new one and open a world the game will crash.

Steps to reproduce

  • Add 2 texture packs to your resource_packs folder. (or buy the city and plastic texture packs but close your game after you do.)

  • Open your game.

  • Press PLAY then go back to title screen.

  • Go to your texture packs page. Options> Texture packs > Manage

  • Your game will sometimes decide to select a custom texture pack by default. (If it does, change it out with the one you want to use.)

  • Change out current texture pack being used and pick a new one. (skip this step if there isn't anything added.)

  • Add the texture pack you want to use. (skip this step if you already have a texture pack added.)

  • Now open one of your worlds and your game will crash.

Sorry, issues pertaining to the use of third party or modified texture packs are not supported here. If you think the issue is a result of a vanilla mechanic or feature, please feel free to add more details.

If you need help or have a suggestion, please make a post on the Minecraft PE forum

This affects the plastic and city texture packs too. Say I only have those and I switch between them, the game will crash when opening one of my worlds.

The issue may be related to you manually adding the folder "resource_packs" to your game files.

Can you remove it and see if the issue continues?

Adding texture packs to the texture packs folder is not supported in vanilla minecraft. If users are experiencing a crash when switching between the official texture packs when they have not put other texture packs into the game's texture pack folder then please submit a new ticket.
