When attacking an entity with a durable item, the item is used every time an attack is registered, but not only a attack with damage

I used an autoclicker to show the bug more clearly.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Download any autoclicker.

  2. Spawn Warden.

  3. Run command: /effect @s resistance 9999 10 true

  4. Take from creative inventory a Diamond Sword.

  5. Switch your gamemode to Survival.

  6. Spam attacks with autoclicker to Warden.

Expected Result: Sword not should to break very fast

Observing Result: Sword breaks in seconds.

Yep, it is can be reproduced without using auto clicker, but way slower.

This issue is still present on the latest stable version (1.20.32).

This bug recurred in an unknown version (i remember around 1.19.70?). Also, autoclicker isn't required to reproduce the bug.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Download and apply the Durability viewer pack for easier viewing

  2. Enter a world

  3. Get wooden sword

  4. Summon or Find zombie

  5. Switch survival or adventure mode

  6. Keep hitting zombie using the sword

Expected Results:
Wooden sword only loses its durability when zombie takes damage

Observed Results:
Durability of wooden sword decreases each time it hits zombie

As per Helmet's comment, closing as WAI. The same mechanics apply to Java as well.
