In prior versions and Java, players' name tags on a multiplayer world can be seen through walls. Since 1.19.70, this has been completely disabled with no indication in the patch notes.

Can we get any sort of confirmation here that this change isn't intentional/actually a feature now? I think that's my main worry here as well as a lot of other people's
I wouldn't say this is intended design, since it was never announced to us that something like this would happen.
Also to mention that this makes multiplayer gameplay way harder to see since the nametags aren't visible behind the walls.
As a temporary workaround given the possibility that this isn't fixed for awhile, is it possible that somebody could make a resource pack showing the gamertags/nametags even behind blocks? Or at the very least, a pack that puts something above players heads revealing their locations? I don't know what's possible and what isn't, or if a resource pack like that is even possible given the code, but I have seen player detector packs similar to it before, and it's merely just a suggestion
I attached a pack that seems to fix this issue. I just played around with the depth bias for some relevant name/nametag materials and it seems to now behave as it did in 1.19.63.
Please make this an option, this finally got rid of stupid spamming nametags and livesigns.
Please dont bring this back.
This also affects mobs named with a name tag.
