Mobs don’t have the correct attacking behavior

Description

Mobs like Ravagers, Piglins, Zombified Piglin, Piglin Brutes don't attack entities correctly and some doesn't do damage to them when it should

Steps to Reproduce

  • Create a new world

  • Use a spawn egg or type one the commands below

/summon @e [type = ravager] ~ ~ ~
/summon @e [type = zombie_pigman] ~ ~ ~
/summon @e [type = piglin] ~ ~ ~
/summon @e [type = piglin_brute] ~ ~ ~
  • Switch to Survival mode and if necessary hit them to make it aggro at you

  • Let the them follow until it comes in the radius where it can attack while you look at them continuously walking away from it

Observed Results

The mob will come close to its attack range and It will stop in place for a second and then start chase you again

In the ravager case however not only that happens, but if while you're backing away and the ravager comes enough to hit you and do the attack animation you will notice that no damage at all is gonna be inflicted to you and also it will stop in place after attacking

Expected Results

The mob should attack and continuously attacking the entity without stopping and the damage should ways be registered

Note:

Its not as apparent on zombified piglins and the other variations of the piglin as it is on the ravager, but it still happening with them, also this issue might be happening with various other mobs as well

It should be expected that mobs slow down or stop briefly when they get in range to mele attack precisely because at that moment they are in range and therefore they do not need to move closer.

In this report you seem to be asking for mobs to continuously move while performing mele attacks. That might seem to make sense when you are backing up in a straight line, but if you were moving in a circle or sidestepping it would result in normal mobs hitting you while they appear to move past you to the side, and ravagers would lunge past you, not hitting any more consistently than they do now. Ravagers have a delayed attack by design, and that is why their behavior seems a bit different here.

This report really seems to be more of a feature request for an entirely different mele attack system where mobs would lunge at their targets instead of chasing until they are within range.
