The Trail Ruins structure is cut by generation

Due to a bug, the Trail Ruins structure is cut into two parts by generation. The upper part is on the surface, and the lower part is deep underground. Between the parts is a layer of stone, which should not be there. This makes excavation very inconvenient and unintuitive.
Expected result: No layer of stone between part of the structure on the surface and underground.

I've tried excavating at least 5 trail ruins and all have the top part showing, but then stone. Thought maybe a bug so now I'm checking here.

Update: dug down until I reached something, and this one trail ruin I'm at, dug 10 stone blocks down and found terracotta.
