Am no longer able to join a friend

(They play on Nintendo Switch and I play on PC/Windows 10/11) We used to be able to play just fine, and did recently just a couple weeks ago. Tried to join again yesterday (Oct. 18th, 2023) and today (Oct. 19th, 2023) and it shows the same error "World is no longer available to join" even though they're online and showing up as joinable. We've tried everything from restarting minecraft on both our devices, to checking for viruses/file corruption and nothing has worked. We can't tell if its a problem with Minecraft or with their switch. We also experienced a strange inventory wipe the last time we were on together too. Theirs was fine but everything was gone from my inventory and I was back at spawn (even though I hadn't died) and everything from my enderchest was gone too. We made a copy of the world and reloaded it and then everything reappeared but after I got off that day I haven't been able to join back.

We are both on Minecraft Bedrock and have both updated to v1.20.32

What we've tried:

  • Unfriending/re-friending

  • Checking for file/world corruption/viruses

  • Restarted/checked/reconnected wifi

  • Switching Networks

  • Restarting devices

  • Completely deleting/re-downloading minecraft

  • Turned off all VPNs

  • Synced Time/dates

  • Updated systems

  • Backed up world to cloud and deleted old one/tried again

Any help/advice would be wonderful!
