In my survival world I'm trying to make a system that automatically closes a trapdoor above the cauldrons to keep anything from falling in the lava in them. However, I've found that they only fill with lava if there is no trapdoor above, even if the trapdoor is open.
Reproduction:
Make a lava farm using cauldrons and dripstone
Put open trapdoors on some of them.
Wait and see which ones fill with lava.
Expected results:
All the cauldrons fill with lava
Actual results:
Only the cauldrons without open trapdoors above them fill with lava

I believe this is works as intended, according to Minecraft Wiki, all blocks between the pointed dripstone and cauldron must be air.
Ok true "When the uppermost block of a stalactite less than 11 blocks tall gets randomly ticked, it checks for a water source or waterlogged block two blocks above it and a cauldron within 10 blocks under the tip with no non-air blocks in between." I didn't see this when I was researching.
Though I think it would make sense to change this to work with blocks like trapdoors and doors.

Then it's a feature request, not a bug report, which you need to go to Minecraft Feedback.
Also, I noticed that you're still using the Fandom Minecraft Wiki, they have now moved to a new host and offers a better experience.
Ah, I didn't know that, sorry! Anyway, I did some testing and these are blocks which prevent cauldrons from filling up water/lava in Bedrock Edition, but not Java Edition:
Banners
Buttons
Cobwebs
Coral fans (both alive and dead)
Item frames (note that item frames are entities in Java Edition)
Ladders
Levers
Open fence gates
Open trapdoors
Pressure plates
Signs
Strings
Torches (and it's variants)
