iPad/IOS crashes 10s into game when Ad Blocking enabled

Hello-my son recently starting having issues where about 10s into his Minecraft games on his iPad the game would crash. But it doesn’t do it if I switch from my home Internet (Xfinity over Eero wireless) to my phone’s hotspot (5G, not over Eero).

I did some testing and consistently reproduced that when I disable the network level Eero ad blocking feature the issue goes away.

Here are some details:
iPad model MYL92LL/A (8th Gen)
iOS: 17.4
Minecraft: 1.20.71 (latest as of me sending this)
Eero Pro firmware: v7.2.2.-16

The ad blocker on your Eero router is most likely causing the issue as it seems there is a bug with this patch when it comes to ad blockers.  Turn that off and it should work, although I would prefer to keep my ad blocker running.

Worlds are still crashing for me on iOS, even after disabling the ad blocker

Can confirm. Our home WiFi (under Eero) causes issues with ad-blockers on certain websites and apps across many platforms (not only iOS). The crashing of Minecraft is only on iOS/iPadOS, though. Through testing, I was able to conclude that other platforms like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Windows (Win11, most likely Win10 also) do not have these crashing issues on the WiFi network. It is best to have another WiFi connection provided by a different service provider to avoid issues relating to this (unwanted ad-blocking, site & app blocking, and etc.).

FWIW, my ad blocking takes place network wide via AdGuard DNS. Switching to a conventional DNS server makes the game not crash (iOS 17.3.1). Point being, I don’t think the ad blocker is the root cause as much as the ad blocking.

My daughter's ipad has had Minecraft crashing for a few days now. I was able to resolve it (for now) by unblocking:

vortex.data.microsoft.com

I have the domain vortex.data.microsoft.com whitelisted, but my sisters iPad app is still crashing within seconds of re enabling blocking.

Filling out the form so they may help

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  Enable some form of Ad Filtering (Pihole, Adguard, etc) and it appears to be related to the domain vortex.data.microsoft.com and possibly more being filtered.
2. Launch MC on the Ipad IP and load into a world
3. Game crashes within about 20-30 seconds

Observed Results:
Game works normally up to the point when you crash.  You will usually where you walked to, however any items taken out of chests go missing.  The the app fully crashes to back to IpadOS

Expected Results:
The App should not be fully crashing if it is unable to talk to various MS servers.

Confirmed fixed in 1.20.72. Thank you!

Resolving temporarily as Awaiting Response. Is it still necessary to disable the ad-blocker or whitelist the vortex.data.microsoft.com domain to fix the issue in the the latest version of the game?
