Minecraft continuously uses more ram

Minecraft education edition is slowly using more ram until so much ram is taken up that my laptop starts lagging. The amount of ram Minecraft uses eventually caps at 10 GB and then it becomes very unplayable. When I open task manager and then open the game, it uses about 10 to 50 more megabytes every second. does this happen to anyone else?

Happened right now to me, based on my testing the amount of consumed RAM was proportional to the render distance settings, on 32 chunks it's 14 GB+ in under 2 minutes of gameplay and computer starts swapping heavily.

Bedrock 1.21.51

After some more testing it happens ONLY when loading a really old world (created 3 years ago). This was the setup:

  • My son on another account started really old world

  • I connected getting all my RAM lost in a minute

  • Consistent behavior after multiple restarts - world is unplayable in this condition

Even with a new world, the game still eats up a lot of my RAM than it should be. I have 32 GB of RAM, and I only use 5 add-ons, but Minecraft mostly eats 15 GB of RAM. My render distance is at its recommended range that is default in-game, which is at 45, but RAM usage shouldn’t be this high.

Playing on Bedrock 1.21.73, by the way, on Windows 11 24H2.

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
GPU: NVIDIA ROG Strix 4060 Ti
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z890-E Gaming Wifi

I am seeing this on Bedrock 1.21.94 also. I think the Vibrant Visual update really exacerbated it. It only takes like 3-5 minutes before I start seeing large lag spikes and memory usage.

Memory continues to be allocated even on a paused, single-player world. It also doesn’t get released even when backing out to the main menu.

Work-around for this is to set it back to simple graphics and lower rendered chunks as low as possible.
