Even at the maximum random tick speed of 4096, pointed dripstone will not grow if the block it is placed under is not a dripstone block. For some reason, the Minecraft Wiki lies and says pointed dripstone without a dripstone block supposedly takes “about 5 in-game days” to grow on average, but it becomes blatantly obvious that this is untrue when the random tick speed is increased.
Additionally, the wiki says that “a water source above the block will slightly increase this process”, referring to pointed dripstone growth. This implies that dripstone will grow without water directly above the supporting block. This also does not happen, regardless of whether the supporting block is dripstone or not. I don’t have access to Java or previous versions of Bedrock but I have no reason to believe the wiki was making things up, so I assume this is a bug.
