Most Entities Textures Appear Black With Ray Tracing

With the release of 1.21.80.22 Preview, almost all entity textures appear completely black when ray tracing is enabled.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Obtain any ray tracing-compatible resource pack (there is one attached for convenience).

  2. Activate the pack and join a world with ray tracing enabled.

  3. Spawn various entities and observe their textures.

Observed Results:

  • Almost all entity textures appear black when ray tracing is enabled.

Expected Results:

  • Entity textures should display correctly, just as they do in other graphics modes.


Additional Notes:

  • This issue may be partially worked around by modifying the texture opacity for each entity. As such, using an empty ray tracing-compatible resource pack (with only vanilla files) can help isolate and test this bug.

  • This is not the first time this type of issue has occurred. Similar bugs have affected various entities in past versions, including:

    • Horses

    • The Warden

    • Featured Server Entities

    • Player Skins

    • Tridents

    • ...and more.

  • However, what makes this report different is that this issue now applies to nearly EVERY entity, and it occurred suddenly with 1.21.80.22 Preview update.

This bug is extremely noticeable and severely impacts the ray tracing experience. Given how frequently similar issues have recurred in the past, it would be ideal if this bug is resolved before leaving the Previews into Release.
Ray tracing is already negatively affected with toggling issues and terrain flickering issues introduced in 1.21.60 and 1.21.70 Releases respectively, and now 1.21.80 risks introducing yet another critical bug.
