Nether portal block unbreakable when default game mode is survival

When the default game mode of a world is survival and the player game mode is creative it is not possible to break the nether portal block. It behaves as if the game mode was survival. Probably the game is checking the default game mode instead of the player game mode when it tries to break the block.
