When you try to get an item from the inventory in creative to your hot-bar the item will duplicate into the remaining free slots. If you drop the item and pick it back up again, it does solve the problem but it quite annoying to do repeatedly, as when you go to get another item from the inventory, the problem occurs. My friend who plays minecraft on PE too has noticed this.
