Local Multiplayer Issues

Issues playing local split screen game on Xbox series X. When the other player rejoins the game it doesn’t save their inventory or location. Another issue is now when he tries to join it adds him as “my gamer tag 2” and not his profile. We have tried restarting the system and everything, it keeps happening and is beyond frustrating.
