Joining a world in split screen causes the secondary player to use a guest account

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Own two Xbox accounts on the same device.

  2. Open or create world in Minecraft.

  3. Use second controller to Join as Player 2.

  4. Sign in as second account.

Expected result:

Second player joins as their own account.

Actual result:

Second player joins as ‘MainUser(2)’

Additional details:

All accounts other than ‘MainUser' on the device will lead to the ‘MainUser(2)’ guest account. Exiting second account and adding guest will open as ‘MainUser (1)’ according to the name in the top right corner of the individual screen. All accounts intentionally opened as guest will be seen as “Player” to others in the world. It is also possible to get ‘MainUser(2)’ and ‘MainUser (2)’ to occur at the same time. Due to strange world-saving issues in my past (my one world has had game-breaking issues several times over several years, getting worse in the more recent updates, particularly 1.21.80), the unintentional guest account in my main world spawned in at the location I was in when I had a massive world sync error in several days/saves/world copies ago, with all of the items the main player had at the time. This unintentionally duplicated these particular items.

This issue existed in several 1.21.90 betas but I failed to report it as I assumed it was exclusive to the Preview Version. It is not, and I can no longer play on my Minecraft world with my sibling. This is completely game breaking, and I hope it can get a hotfix.

I have a video of this that I will attach via YouTube link in comments due to size limit here.

Can confirm this is an issue. Having the same issue!

I’m having the same issue. I made a post right after you posted because originally when I looked there were none

This link above (or perhaps below) is my video documenting this issue. I am sorry to the community that I was too lazy to document this earlier, but I hoped it would just disappear like many other strange things in Preview Edition.

important to note: I am on Xbox Series X. Can anyone confirm this for other Xbox platforms?

I am also on Xbox Series X

According to the patch notes for ver. 26…

Fixed player data becoming disconnected from account for Xbox players in split-screen mode (MCPE-233088)

Just checked ps5 and the bug persists. Boo

Has anyone had luck with splitscreen on a realm working properly after recent hotfixes?

I let our realm lapse months ago with a backup saved to load up if splitscreen is fixed.

We literally haven't played Minecraft since the update last June broke the game. Offline on console has no value given the file aize limitations. Have to be able to manage the realm from my PC to prune the world periodically.

PS5 local split screen user here. It is absolutely ridiculous how long this is taking to fix. I downloaded my world from the realm and split screen multiplayer works with both our accounts, so I have absolutely zero incentive to keep my realm active until this is resolved. Hopefully if enough people drop realms, this will be resolved.

Long Time Poster here, I’ll be looking into it in a couple of hours and get back to you my friends.

I quit a long time ago and I’m still paying for it thinking it may come back but I’ll be honest, I’m unsubscribing this weekend, no matter what.

I’ll stay here because I would like it to be RESOLVED.

Fingers crossed.
