When tethering mobs in the latest version of the game, the leads are stretched too much compared to later versions, which makes mobs untie more easily in some cases and also makes them approach you more slowly when you lead them with the leads. Additionally, they get stuck in single-level blocks, making them harder to move.
The first video is of the later version and the second is of a latest version

Same issue. Leashed an untamed wolf, wolf went after sheep in a pen next to it, lead couldn’t pull the wolf at all, and I was able to stretch the lead pass the wolf’s render distance. On preview for Bedrock.
Things were changed during the leash overhaul in Chase the Skies (v1.21.90) so the length of which leads stretch by has increased.
HOWEVER at some point, mobs no longer consistently jump up blocks when pulled by a leash (the “get stuck in single-level blocks” issue mentioned). Here are a couple examples from v26.33:
I have experienced this as well. It is now nearly impossible to lead mobs by hand over any terrain that is not completely flat. The mob will not follow and the lead eventually breaks.
