Edited chunks slow the game down when loading, especially on Realms.

Hey!
When terraforming large areas—meaning flattening them by removing massive amounts of blocks—the game’s performance slows down significantly, as shown in the video below. You can see how the game runs perfectly at first, then slows down, runs smoothly again, and then slows down again. In the bottom right corner, you can see a framerate graph that clearly shows how the game periodically lags while walking through this large, flattened area.

-

Edit

This happens with both large and small terraformed areas. It’s just more intense with large ones, but even small terraformed areas cause the game to slow down intensely on Realms.

This video was recorded on a Realm! On a local world, the slowdown still happens, but it feels more like constant slow motion rather than periodic slowdown.

From an average player’s point of view, this is absurd! When you remove blocks from the world, you’d expect the game to run smoother—not much slower! From a technical perspective, I understand it may be more complex, but I still hope this bug gets fixed. It shouldn’t be that a massive project starts causing lag before any new blocks have even been placed—just because many blocks were removed.

How to reproduce:

  1. Get a structure block.

  2. Select an area of 64×200×64 in the structure block that contains only air.

  3. Save it.

  4. Place the structure block at height 64 (or similar).

  5. Load it.

  6. Repeat this process until you’ve created a huge flat area.

  7. Walk or fly around.

I’ve already done this, so you don’t have to! I’ve linked the video and world file below. In the world, you’ll also notice the MCPE-171807 bug happening all over the place, but I don’t think it’s related to this issue here.

If you stand still and just look around, the game starts running smoothly again after a few seconds. It seems to be just the chunk loading process that causes the slowdown.

Observed:
The game slows down massively—everything feels like it’s in slow motion when loading chunks where a massive amount of blocks has been removed.

Expected:
Chunks where large amounts of blocks have been removed should not cause the game to slow down as much when loading them.

The video has very low quality, but I still hope u can see the graph! And u can still slightly see the periodically happening slow-motion effect this bug causes!

On the Realm, I removed more blocks from more chunks, so there is more lag than in the world I uploaded here. But still, also in the world I uploaded, u can most likely experience it

The graph in the video is very low quality, so I took two screenshots. In the first one, you can see how the framerate drops periodically, making the game feel like it’s in slow motion, then normal speed, then slow motion again, and so on. In the second one, you can see what it looks like when you stop moving.
