My drivers are up to date, and my gpu is a 3080.
This issue is for 1.21.93, but I believe the issue arose in 1.21.90 and I can’t believe it hasn’t been fixed. The only way I’ve been able to use PBR without tremendous workarounds, is to use vibrant visuals. SOMEHOW the PBR textures work on the Vibrant Visuals setting, but not the Raytracing one.
I’ve tried reloading the world and Minecraft, using global AND per world resources, as well as a pack in the world folder. I’ve tried different combinations of those with different settings, enabling them at different times after/before loading, with other settings etc. There is only one way I’ve gotten them to work.
The only way I’ve gotten it to work at all is as shown below:
- Open Minecraft.
- Install a PBR RTX pack.
- Open a new world with the pack on Vibrant Visuals.
- Switch to RTX.
- Everything is shiny.
- Close the world and bring it back up. It works.
This ONLY works once, when I have just installed the resource pack… I think. I’ve already tested for an hour and I’m done lol.
The steps to reproduce should just be one step: Try to use PBR with RTX/ The Vanilla RTX Normals Iron Block is a good way to tell, it’s very obvious.
I’ll say here how silly this whole thing is. How can this system be so deprecated in favor of Vibrant Visuals so instantly when one is clearly better?
Edit: I know I said I wouldn’t do any more testing. But I’ve confirmed it works like a charm in 1.21.82.1. I load up, and there’s no switching off of Vibrant Visuals, or reloading the world, it just bloody works.
