/replaceitem fails with unexpected error when using an invalid slot

How to reproduce

1. Run /replaceitem entity @s slot.saddle 0 apple

Expected result

Error should say “No targets expected item [Apple] into slot.saddle”

Observed result

Error says “An unknown error occurred while attempting to perform this command”
