When you place a target block adjacent to a redstone line (that’s not already pointing at it), the redstone line is attracted to it and bends into it. This is expected. However, the redstone still behaves as if it’s still pointing in the original direction in addition to the direction of the target block. It isn’t rendered that way, but if you try to power in that direction with something that doesn’t “pull in” a redstone line (like a block with a repeater on the other side or a dropper) it will still be powered. This is hard to explain but is clear from the attached picture.
