All inventory items despawned after dying in trial chamber

i was killed in an ominous trial in a chamber and had a bed nearby so i could quickly respawn and retrieve my items. When i arrived back where i died All of my items that were in my inventory were not there and i noticed the few blocks i had broken right before i died trying to make a hole to hide in were still intact. I lost not just gear, but every single bit of loot and even my torches and coal and random items. everything was gone including my only diamond gear. I wasn’t near lava or anything. everything is gone.
