Fishing bobber won't bob; splash sound for bobber missing

Fishing has become unnecessarily difficult since the update. The animation that shows the bobber bobbing, with the concentric rings around it when you've got something on the line is now missing, and in its place you have the merest hint of a lowering of the bobber. Also, the sound accompanying said animations is now gone. This is happening in both my friend's vanilla realm and my own world using the Fantasy Texture Pack.
