on a survival world. Hard setting. Creating a copper golem. placed copper block on ground. placed carved pumpkin in copper block. chest but no golem

Playing on windows 11 minecraft bedrock. tried creating copper golem. placed copper block on ground then carved pumpkin onto copper block. was a sort off explosion after which a single copper chest appeared. no sign of a copper golem. on opening the copper chest it looked normal. placed 3 different items in the chest and closed it moved away and watched the copper chest open then 3 of my existing wooden chests opened one at a time then sequence repeated . looked like the copper golem was invisible. logged out of game and back in repeated creation with the same results. my dogs near the wooden chests yelped as if the golem bumped into them.
