After October 7th PS5 update, large worlds crash on load — duplicates either won’t open or shrink to 30 MB

Date of issue: October 7, 2025

Steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Launch Minecraft Bedrock on PS5

  2. Attempt to open an existing world (~495 MB in size)

  3. Game stays stuck on “Generating World.”

  4. After 20–30 seconds, the game crashes to the PS5 home screen

Expected result:
The world should load normally.

Actual result:
The game freezes and crashes every time the 495 MB world (or its duplicate) is opened.

Additional information:

  • The original world (495 MB) and its duplicate (also 495 MB) both crash on load.

  • A backup world (482 MB) loads normally with no corruption.

  • However, when duplicating that working 482 MB world, the new duplicate is only 30 MB and has missing terrain and regenerated chunks.

  • Reinstalling Minecraft, rebuilding the PS5 database, and disabling add-ons did not fix the issue.

  • PS5 has plenty of free storage space.

  • Problem started immediately after the October 7 update.
