Placement of copper golem statues for cape

My wife had placed down copper golem statues both in creative and normal worlds. She did it repeatedly a few times each. She owns her own copy of Minecraft. She never got a notification that her cape is on it's way like I did. She has not received a cape yet either. Our grandson never got a notification for the copper cape quest but I had him place a statue down in creative. He did not get the cape is on it's way notification but he did get the cape. He has his own copy of Minecraft too. It appears the game never registered my wife placing copper golem statues down.
