Minecraft Bedrock Edition - On Screen Keyboard ....On PC? With full keyboad?

I play Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock Edition) on PC using a controller, but I also have a physical keyboard due to my PC being a laptop.
Before recent updates, I could crouch-place a sign and type text directly on my keyboard, even while using the controller for movement and building.

Now, whenever I interact with any text field (signs, books, anvils, etc.) while the controller is active, the game forces the on-screen controller keyboard (“Gamepad Text Input” interface) to appear.
This overlay prevents all normal keyboard input — if I try to type, the sign interface closes immediately.

This change makes it extremely slow or impossible to enter text normally on PC while using a controller. I have to then use my keyboard to shift and crouch, right click, and only then am I able to type. Why should I have to go the extra steps to circumvent a problem that never used to be a problem? All it would take is a simple option in the menu for Controller to Disable the on screen keyboard, and this would all go away, but it feels like you are treating us gamers as though we are incompetent, or are otherwise incapable of making our own decisions on how we want to play our game. I do not like playing with mouse and keyboard, so I am being punished by being blocked from using it at all unless I start using it to at least partially play. Who oversaw these changes and thought they were good?
